hi hunters

have been watching hitlers lost sub about u-869

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_d_h_?url=search-alias%3Ddvd&field-keywords=hitlers+lost+sub&Go.x=13&Go.y=14

have also been looking for a map of merchant routes or sea lanes in the north sea, and up came this photo of admiral king and when i looked over his left shoulder - hey presto ! there is one !

not very clear, but, if one of you navy guys - or anyone, recognises the map it could be edited for that section - the north sea and we could could have it for a download. it would make a very nice adition to the other maps we use....waddya think ?

(feeling very pleased with myself ! :smug: )

Woah! Sharp eye skipper!
But, aren't those TOO many routes to hope to have them modelled in SHIII? Dunno, just wondering...
Good idea though! Damn good idea.

hi TomcatMVD

like i have the shipsflag recognition quick ref' lamenated and i use it to play the game, its nice to pick up and hold - a little more immersion if you will !!

any of you navy guys have a take on this map - or what it might be called or where i might find an image of it.....

.......any takers, anyone ??

i have had a look at navy web sights and map web sights this afternoon and had no luck so far.

someone on subsim must know something about maps - i mean the ol' admiral is stood infront of it - its gotta have a name, a code number a serial number - something....

please have a think.....

cheers

The lines in the first linked map appear to be distances, not shipping lanes. Possibly the Admiral's map is the same?

They looked almost identicle so I just thought .... OK, so I failed!

i think you may be right - they could well be distances rather than lanes.

it's doing my head in tring to find a map from that era with lanes/routes for merchants,

and thanks for your efforts i have been following them up...

cheers

Methil was the destination port for a lot of North Sea shipping
Methil ?
Just outside Rosyth\Forth of Forth on the SH3 map
HN convoys sailed west from Bergen then south to Methil
ON convoys the reverse

Something like this

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h22/bigboywooly/ScreenHunter_218-3.jpg

Singles left from many ports either side of the North Sea
Of course after a few neutral merc sinkings in the North Sea many neutral mercs sailed in convoy form Bergen under British protection

HN 9A
19 Norwegian, 9 Swedish, 4 Finnish, 4 Estonian, 1 Latvian

Escorts:
HMS Isis (S.O.), Imogen, Kashmir, Tartar and Seal (the latter stationed 3 cables abeam of leading ship of port column).
Air Escort - sighted every day

37 neutral mercs and 4 destroyers and a sub
:rotfl:

What a renown hit that convoy would be

Of course thet werent all like that

Convoy HN.2 of eight British and one Finnish steamer departed Bergen and was joined by destroyers ICARUS, IMOGEN, IMPULSIVE. The convoy was covered by battleships NELSON (http://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-01BB-Nelson.htm) and RODNEY (http://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-01BB-Rodney.htm) and accompanying forces which departed Rosyth on the 12th. ICARUS was relieved by destroyer IMPERIAL and then proceeded to Rosyth for boiler cleaning
