View Full Version : aft torpedo solution ...
i usually don't use solution computer for torpedo attacks, so when i have to use the aft torpedoes it asks for one :shifty: ... even if i give it one i still can't reset it afterwards, is there a way to overcome this ... ?

Setup for aft torpedoes is exactly the same as forward torpedoes. Exactly what information are you feeding the TDC?
It won't shoot without a speed, range/bearing, AoB/course and torpedo tube selected. If the bearing is not within allowable parameters for firing the selected tube, for instance bearing 0º is selected for an aft torpedo tube, the torpedo won't fire.
Really, that's all I can say with this little information provided. You haven't said enough for anyone to really help you beyond just describing how the game works. And I'm assuming manual targeting, which you haven't said you are using.
manual targeting...
so no aft shooting without (tdc) solution ? that's how it works ? :D

There is no such thing as no TDC info. The default bearing is zero. That will not allow you to shoot an aft torpedo, as I already explained. You'll have to learn to operate the TDC in order to make it work right.
If your TDC bearing were 180, you wouldn't be able to shoot a forward torpedo! You can't shoot ANY torpedo without a TDC solution that fits the torpedo selected. Forward or aft has nothing to do with it.
you can shoot a forward torpedo without a solution and with different angle...
i don't have time to enter tons of data in TDC in a DD chase, shoot the aft torpedo at the right moment would end the chase ...

By default the bearing and speed are 0 when you leave port. Bow torpedoes fired will go straight ahead. If you feed in a new bearing the torpedo will go directly down that bearing, since it thinks the target is sitting still.
You can fire similarly with aft torpedoes. Leave the speed at zero and send a bearing measurement with the scope pointed at 180. Now your aft torpedos will fire straight backwards.

it's not going 180, anywhere but 180...

Then you're not doing it right, because doing what Powerthighs wrote WILL send the rear torpedoes out in a straight line. PK off, speed 0, point scope to 180 and send bearing, fire.
well thats how i do it ...
i send the periscope bearing from the sonar panel, is it the correct one ?

Nope, you have to send it from the scope view, which will send the bearing the scope is pointed at. It's the disc-looking object in the upper right corner, the send button itself having a small triangle on it. Sending from the sonar panel will send whatever bearing the sonar is pointing at.
that is not working ... "cannot compute solution", although i figured i'll use the sonar panel after all
:D

We keep receiving such imcomplete information that it's impossible to help you. If we were being trolled we would receive the same type of requests with contradictory and incomplete info. Check out WernerSobe's videos in his Advanced TDC/PK thread and try again. Everything you need to succeed is there.

Make sure you have one of your aft tubes selected before you send the bearing. If you have a bow tube selected there won't be a valid solution.

After reading the thread again and seeing WernerSobe's videos, the next sound you hear should be a loud BOOM!
boom is allways there, sometimes is right here ...

Some time ago there was a thread on the SH3 boards for people who died on the second patrol. Over and over.
