View Full Version : The Problem with "some posts here"- Too many Doomsayers around here

I don't beleive that I have ever seen in one place so many Doomsayers. An example, every year since I have been born there has been at least one major book predicting the downfall of the USA in the 70's, in the 80's, in the 90's, and in the 00's. Now I'm seeing the crash of the stock market, or whatever. How many people here know that there are so many checks and balances in the stock market these days that it is IMPOSSIBLE to have another Great Depression or the way it played out? Yes, you could have the decline of the US of A, but it cannot be an overnight thing like it was in the 30's. It will be a long slow gradual decline if it could happen at all.

If a Great Depression were possible, 9/11 would have caused it. Nothing happened. THe market dropped as expected, but then made a massive reversal in the following months and gained it all back and then some.

There is only one real way to knock out America quickly - Nuke war.

Now can we get back to some constructive General Thread topics like BEER???!!! :D I'm so bored with all the Doomsayer crap.

-S

PS. There is something to be said for the Doomsayer authors - they are smart because you bought their book and they got rich off it! :p

Companies will always try to sell more and pay less.

Sell more and pay less means that sooner or later people will stop buying
because they have baught all they can and are being paid as little as they
can be.
The crashes, at one scale or another, that have charicturised the last 150+
years of economics is not a trend that we have any reason to belive is over.

Subman, subman, subman,:nope: I see you have some screws loose in your aluminium helmet. When Hillary is elected (by coup-de-ta) the US will be desolved and will be absorbed by the EU... and beer will be banned. To solve the immigration problem, Primier Clinton will sell Texas and Cali-for-nia back to Mexico. ...after we adopt the metric system. So, if I were you, I'd just go buy my lil' green suit and smile.

...or go buy lots of ammunition.

Well.. we have 50 billion years or so before "The Big Rip" is supposed to start happening so we had better get SOMETHING done before then !

Also, within about 15 millions years or so.. our sun is going to die out and bake us to a cinder and then the planet will freeze...

There's an asteroid that's going to fly past the earth closer than most of our communication satelites in a couple years (We'll be able to see it with our naked eye). If it's trajectory happens to be JUST RIGHT, Earth's gravity will alter it's course and make it come back and hit us seven years later. This is the same asteroid that freaked astronomers out several years back when they discovered it traveling between the Earth and the Moon.. a VERY near miss.

Yellowstone National Park is going to erupt someday destroying human civilisation in the process.

If a red giant star goes supernova even within 1000 light years from us, if the gamma ray burst from the collapse of the star hits us, it will fry half the planet and then plunge the other half of the planet into a nuclear winter.

I am not going to answer this gripe. Mere months will tell. All the yacking and grandstanding is pointless. Like they say to those crying about being sued - TELL IT TO THE JUDGE. The judge is just around the corner - like by 2009 at most. So arguments are pointless...... Reality will judge here in a very short time - then some one will be eating words. Yeah, the Titanic was unsinkable. Yeah, Germans complained before each of Hitler's major moves prior to Poland. In fact doomsayers were even griping about Poland - and then latter they gripped about invading Russia....doom-say, doom-say, doom-say....what were those silly doomsayers thinking? Didn't they know that the Third Reich had a 1000 year warranty? Der unskinable Reich! Der unsinkable Bismarck!

Did I say the 'D' word? No I was talking about men who likely wear Italian leather shoes that cost more than the networth the certain gripers here, who were using the 'D' word. Big bankers and financial honchos quoted last summer. Nearly all the protections designed to protect the USA from the big 'D' made back in the 30s were removed by congress through the late 80s, and 90s. The old protective laws are GONE Baby. Now we depend on the PPT of Bush and derivatives (which were designed to protect the market). But now the problem IS the derivatives.

Personally I expect to see the coming problem begin to affact even the Subsim forum before 2009, because phone companies are reporting that increasing numbers of people are not paying their for their high speed internet connections.....

time will tell, and like all reality - when it bites all the tears and tantrums won't lift the load.

;)

And yes, the media has accurately predicted the US recessions. They have a 100% record. They have accurately predicted 36 of the last 2 recessions. :smug:

Yawn.

What's the stock market going to do when the earth tilts and the Great Lakes empties all of it's water out into the Miss river and it all flows down to the Gulf of Mexico?

What's it going to do then?

Edgar Cayce predicted this back in the 1930's ... he didn't have a date in mind, but something tells me God does. :yep:

As I said in another thread - some people's awareness span does not reach beyond 8 hours. That way, they always will get surprised while being unprepared. Unfortunately they also refuse to accept any responsibility for their deeds and decisions, becasue after just 8 hours, they already have forgotten what they just have done, or did four years ago - or failed to do.

What is pessimism for party freaks - is realism and awareness for those who know that no party lasts forever and the mountain of work in the kitchen gets bigger and bigger: even if having had too many drinks or drugs make you believe different. there will be no Martian messiah landing on earth and doing the unpleasant afterwork for you.

Well, tell the end to feck off. I plan on living twenty or thirty more years before dying, and that goes for the rest of you. Stick around for the end of the show, lol.

The fact is, and I've said this many times before, we ARE going to die eventually. The human race, and all other races in the universe, are destined to endure this fate. Everything dies, but death is a natural part of life. It's what makes the world go round. Without death, the universe would be a horrible place (let alone Earth). Humans would exhaust all their resources, we'd run out of places to live, and imagine if infamous people such as Stalin had lived?

You can't go on worrying about it everyday. If you did, you'd never be able to move or continue with normal life. When you come close to death, you'll probably understand this fact and how precious life is.

I did in my younger years, and amongst other themes adressed in my poems on a one-by-one basis most emotional states humans have. the one i preferred most of these was one about melancholy, though  Some stuff was good, but most got lost again - sometimes justified.

Maybe some things we do are for nothing, but no thing ever is in vain. Things change constantly, that is evolution, and when something got sorted out from that process, it compares to a needed step on a ladder later steps are build upon, even if you do not look behind when climbing a ladder. Or better: a climbing net, with many different paths tpo go up possible, some climbers already have gone up higher, while others are clibming side by side (like we still see species on arth living alongside with us that nevertheless derive from another age that they survivded). Is see no final ends anywhere in universe - just constant transitions, and heaven and hell are states of mental evolution, on a racial as well as an individual level. examining our mind, we examine all universe, and the answer is written across the whole sky in the movement of the sun, the blow of the wind, and the sparkling stars scattered all around the firmamaent - and you seeing it, hearing it, feeling it, realising it; that you perceive is the key to what you perceive; not one part is hidden from you, it all is laid out for you to see and to understand. And when you consider how many complex and interdepending variables need to meet a fragile balance within a very small margin of tolerance, you hardly can claim that life and mind are just random results of otherways "dead" processes like big bangs or amino acids hit by a lightening - that is the most infantile answer I could imagine: a tool can be a causal cause (a nail being hammered ointo the wall), but it is not the origin of the idea behind (to hang up a picture). I must not refer to a creator - I just can conclude that matter has a self-organizing quality because matter is just an image, an expression of mind that already includes - like a hologram - all those unlimited ideas of mind that it could ever create, and the higher the order it forms, the more there is life searching to become aware of itself; and the more self-awareness in life, the more knowledge in mind there is. All futures and all options are already inherently included in the universe, and possibly create new ones endlessly, like if creating Indra's net of perfect pearls before it was hung up. In the end, the motor of the universe is it's quest to know itself. All holiness there is - is within you and around you. All you can do is to realise that - or to assume you know it better and construct a puppet yourself, to which you then pray - which also represents a needed, but past step of mental evolution: it then means that you got stuck back then.

Nevertheless, the truth surrounds you even then: always, everywhere, and you eventually rejecting it is part of it's reality.

Edit:
P.S. Indra'S net of pearls is a metaphor used in hindi and buddhist texts, describing the god Indra who in a cave created a net in which an unlimited number of shiny, perfect pearls are hung up and arranged in such a manner that every pearl sees and reflects every other pearl there is, ad infinitum. Games gods do play! :D
