Rescuing a diving boat

Is there anyway to resuce a boot that seems to be falling towards the ocean floor.

After and attack on a convoy I was trying to make my way out of they and while I was still fairly shallow I was hit by a big DC attack and sent to the dark depths on my way down I tried everythign I could to control the fall I.e. blow ballast and click on a new depth, but by the time control was regaigned the Hull intergerity had fallen so much that the Ub-bot was destryoed (at about 100m) having just been much deeper.

In real life a chief of the boat had a few more tools and his disposal e.g. pumping ballast water around to change the trim, control dive planes indidually etc.. is there anythign else I cna do other than tell the CE to make his depth x or to blow ballast?

Try using the engine order telegraph too. If you boat angle is bow heavy, reverse the engines. If it's stern heavy, use the forward commands.
Other than that, the only other actions are to blow ballast, press the surface key "s," and order a higher depth.

before any attack on escorted targets be sure toassign a damage control team.

If a compartment takes damage the men within the compartment will attempt to repair any damage to that compartment... But they will not be remotely as effective as the damage control team.

You will have to tell the damage control team which compartment to repair though... Because their function is NOT automatic.

Of corse nobody will repair ANYTHING or fight ANY flooding if you are secured for silent running, so if you wish to make repairs you MUST secure from silent running.

Two things will save a sinking boat...

1. Speed; the more speed you have the more effective your dive planes.
2. Blowing ballast; blowing compressed air into the tanks forces the ballast water out giving the boat rise. But you will run out of compressed air eventually.

There comes a time when the rate of flooding will overpower the pumps... At this point you have three options.

1. If the boat surfaces, surrender through SH3 Commander.
2. If the sea bed is not deeper than crush depth, strike the bottom and hope that the destroyers loose interest and the damage can be repaired.
3. Bend over as far as you can and kiss your own ass goodbye.

The first and second specialities I issue is that of repairman. If you have an officer and a petty officer with these qualifications, you stand a much better chance of repairing a badly wounded U-boat.

Agreed. I saved my boat once that was going down by the bow. Full reverse on the engines kept me from going too deep just long enough to stop the flooding. I think we got down to 240 metres before we came back up. It was a tense situation, but we survived.:doh:

I've read that book. It's actually very good for an idoits guide. One thing that struck me was how the propellor shafts protrude from the boat; it's because that the pressure of the boat keeps the water out. Brand new news to me!

had every compartment except hydrophone room filling up, the oxygen was well into the red

other than that, all i can say is if no ground is below you, blow ballasts and reverse engines, and set your dive planes for surface, other than that... your sunk!:cry:
