How strange!
It may not be sound evidence, but it looks like it will be at least a little tricky to explain.
Most likely a trick of light and rock. Us humans see faces and bodies everywhere.
*edit* oh lordy I just linked to the DM.
They've managed to hide from us for years,so i dont think they will let a robotic camera take a polaroid of them.;) :rotfl:

Yup, human are adapted to see faces everywhere.
2 dots with one below and a line at the bottom is a face.
A lunp with 4 lines at each corner and a smaller lump on top and it's a body.
They've managed to hide from us for years,so i dont think they will let a robotic camera take a polaroid of them.;) :rotfl:
Imagine if it is real and after years of research on their anatomy, we finally realise that it is posing naked on that image, showing it's rude parts, hoping to get it's picture on the next issue of "Lonely Martian Moms". :hmm:

What the heck is he doing, anyway? There's nothing of interest in that particular area. And surely if it had intelligence, wouldnt it be looking at the sodding great robot clicking at it?
Besides, everyone knows Martians aint ginger.

I reckon it could be Lord Lucan
Looking at the picture the figure would actually be on it's side relative to the ground. What appears to be the side of some kind of mountainous terrain is actually the sloping decent to what seems to be a crater floor.

There is nothing to be seen on this picture.
How lame is that for Daily Mail to turn this into a story?

It's actually a fact that the guys at NASA posted the "Face on Mars" thing as a joke in their newsletter or something like that. Then it got leaked and the UFO crazy community took it seriously.
The thing is that none of these people take into account is that when you watch the actual video of the flyby of the supposed face, that as you pass over it, you see that it's really just a mountain range that goes in a straight line and doesn't even RESEMBLE a face.
The UFO crazy people will probably (Oh what the hell.. definitely) latch onto this photo too. Their theories are permanently safe and self perpetuating because nomatter what evidence you bring up to discount their claims and theories, they will always counter that your "evidence" is part of the "Cover Up".:nope:

He's on Mars. Shouldn't he be marsing?
Amazing how the eye can see what it wants to see. That does look like a humanoid biped out for a nice stroll on Mars, enjoying the 0.01 Earth atmospheric pressure, the 98% CO2 air, the subfreezing cold, and of course, being merely four inches tall since the picture was taken only a few feet from the rover. The sad thing is all the science the rover has been doing for years gets ignored, but tricks of light get headlines.

I could finally have someone repair my computer without any difficulty. Just pop off the side, equip him with several brushes and tools, and he's set (although we might have to buy one of those Tonka tool sets... if the guy is just 4-inches big... I mean... come on! Give him a break!

Yeah arguing with hardcore concpiracy theorists is the same as arguing with creationists, futile but for some strange reason incredibly addictive.

What a great idea about him/her/it cleaning the computer and all.:rotfl:
For me I would have him give me a hand building my model propulsion plant and stationary steam plant for the bench. Hopefully he would have a little welder, and some safety equipment. Then when it's all done I can have him operate the propulsion plant on a 1/96 scale battleship that I want to buy. I will even have a friend knit some dungaree's and a white hat and give him one lucky strike cigarette (for a thing only four inches tall that should last him a month or two of smoking) What do you think we should pay it? Or is food, booze, cigarettes and dirty magazines payment enough?

I'm extremely sure that there's life out there. Look at how huge the universe is. For instance:
http://www.godandscience.org/images/hubbledeepfield.jpg
Look at how many galaxies there are just in that photo. That doesn't even cover a 64th of the amazing universe which we thrive in. Some of these galaxies are huge compared to our own. We don't even know how many there are in OUR galaxy. Tens of hundreds of thousands of planets could exist in just one of these galaxies alone. Look how many there are. Just imagine how many different forms of life are out there. For all we know, one of those galaxies might contain a planet that's looking back at us through a telescope.

Hehheh. Pictures like that are why I laugh whenever that Rocky Mozel character with his International Star Registry starts advertising naming stars for loved ones as a holiday or Valentine's Day gift on the radio. You'll need an expensive trip to the observatory and a time exposure to see your thoughtful gift as it looked light years ago...assuming it's even still there.
Plus...it's really not yours since the International Star Registry star naming is not recognized by the scientific community. So, your star’s name is reserved in International Star Registry records only.
Seems a bit pointless then, doesn't it? Registering a Star Name that is recognized by no one - except the ISR.

That's a famous picture. EVERY speck of light in that picture is a galaxy.
I fully agree with you. That's why I've been a participant in SETI@Home for years. When I'm not on my computer, my computer is running calculations and examining radio telescope data for them.
I think there's definitely life out there and quite a bit of it. However, I think that life that's intelligent like humans are is going to be a rare thing... but you never know. I hope SETI finds something in my lifetime. That would be the most important discovery in history ! They're still looking for radio signals and now they've recently started using optics to look for lazer flashes because high powered lazers can also be used for communication.
I read books about the universe, cosmology, and physics all the time for fun. The Universe is a LOT stranger place than what we take for granted. Everywhere I look now, it never ceases to boggle my mind.
I think the coolest space project that has my interest now is the group of probes they're going to send up that's going to be able to pick up the vibrations from The Big Bang (Yes.. it was so powerful that the universe is still vibrating from it...think of it like aftershocks after an earthquake on the Earth). With this data, they're going to be able to determine just how powerful "The Big Bang" actually was. How cool is that ?

The confounding edge of the universe question. I'm sure the ancients wondered the same thing about the oceans. Until somebody found that if you sailed long enough you ended back up where you started. ;) I doubt if we'll ever know for sure. Frankly, I think Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams summed it up best:
"There is a theory which states that if anybody ever discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
