I may not be an expert for hydrophone and sonar technology but I think my physics basics are good enough to tell me this should be impossible:

Or, that sonar guy is *really* good. He can hear the screws, knows they are around the bay and so he calculates the actual bearing in his head :p

Don't you just hate it? How difficult would it have been for the devs to fix this? Like, two minutes work ffs! *sigh*

Rant over.

Hey... we who play with map contact update on need to understand that it is part of that feature to have "every" contact updated on the map.
Geez, when you're surfaced you get contacts way beyond visual range updated in the map (stock SHIII that is).
When things like that happnen, I pretend I don't have that information and continue on my path till a watchman properly reports it.

:rotfl: The map looks funny on the screen. Like debris from exploding port. I didn't know we have such a feature. :)

This has to do with map update? AFAIK the sonar reports are unrelated to that. So I would guess the sonar guy will detect them even with no map update? (Yes, I am using god's eye map ... yet. This will soon stop :>)

...so you could think that the contact is NOT behind land :)

You could???

:hmm:

"Sonar, report nearest contact!"

Up scope. Turn scope to bearing...

"Weapons officer! Identify that landmass!"

Ha! That reminds me of an old joke.

Officer: "Land bears starboard, 32 degrees."
Captain: "Good. Anchor the boat and get ready to set ashore."
Officer: "Sir!? But what about the bears?"

Ha! That reminds me about an old joke.

Officer: "Land bears starbord, 32 degrees."
Captain: "Good. Anchor the boat and get ready to set ashore."
Officer: "Sir!? But what about the bears?"

That's a groaner. :D

I encounter this issue whenever I sneak into Scapa Flow. I'll be submerged and my sonar guy is reporting hearing contacts that are on the other side of entire land masses. :nope:

I know that sound can travel through rock and all, but WOW ! I didn't know our hydrophones were THAT good !

I seriously wish this could be fixed but unfortunately, I assume it's hard coded.:nope:
