View Full Version : Crash, simdata.dll

I have some idea of what a dll file is, but I have no idea about the contents in this one.
The problem I have is CTD when loading my career in mid patrol. Loading a save in base works, but not mid patrol. The first couple of times this happened I had installed mods, they were graphical in nature so I gave it a go. Unintalling the mods didn't help so I installed them again and restarted my patrol from base. But I still can't load anything but saves in base. I did not alter or install anything since I made the saves but every time I try to load I get a CTD and windows report simdata.dll to be the source of the error.
Any help in narrowing down this error would be appreciated.

In my experience simdata.dll is usually a problem with the campaign files or a unit in them
What year\mods\flotilla are you playing ?

2nd flotilla in the summer of 1941 in a IXB. Mods are GWX2.0, OLC GUI 1.1.5 and some minor sound and graphical ones. The optional GWX mods are Late war sensors snorkel antennas, enhanced damage effects, 16 km atmosphere and lite harbour traffic.
As far as I understand the only mod that deals with campaign files out of those is the lite harbour traffic. And when I think about it that was something I added recently (not during patrol though). So I guess I could try to uninstall that one.
Edit: Well it was worth a try, but after unistall of lite harbour the game still crash but with another error reported, sh3.exe.

Are you trying to use old game saves, from any previous version of GWX?

No this is new campaign I started a few weeks ago when I got GWX2.0. I did take a backup of my old sh3 directory in my documents before deleting it. Then I moved one of my old careers to the new one created when I installed SH3 again. But I never tried to load one of those. So I have 3 profiles now, the old one from GWX1.3 (never used in 2.0), the default "player" used once in a single mission, and my new GWX2.0 campaign.

Hmmm
The late war sensors mod is intended to be used late war
Oct 44 if memory serves me correct
Certainly not 41 as it contains sensors not available till 44
That may be your problem

Tried that, but it didn't make a difference. Thanks for trying to help though. When I think about it I used something called SH3weather a while ago. I'm not even sure I ran the application, maybe once and then I unistalled it. Could that mess with campaign files?

It does change the campaign files in respect of the weather settings
Open each of the campaign files Lnd\Rnd and Scr
In data\Campaigns\Campaign
Use Notepad
Copy and paste the text below over the top of whats in there already then save
Fog=1
FogRand=1
Clouds=1
CloudsRand=1
Precip=1
PrecipRand=1
WindHeading=0
WindSpeed=4.000000
WindRand=1
WeatherRndInterval=4
SeaType=0
Briefing=
All 3 mis files need to read the same - MAKE SURE NO TRAILING SPACES AFTER YOU HAVE PASTED
Happens a lot when copying from the web
One other thing you can try if that doesnt work is to delete the main.cfg from the SH3 folder in my documents
You will need to reset languages etc again on restarting the game but has been known for that file to be corrupted on save before

I'll transpose what I wrote in another thread:
"...I was on a rather successful patrol and did several (read: five) saves along the way while transiting to my patrol zone. I exited the game and when I tried to load my saves, I was greeted with a crash just as the "not so long ago" screen came up. I tried approximately 6-8 times per save, working my way back after giving up on each level until the only save I was able to recover was the "in port before patrol" one. It's frustrating enough to make me want to roll back to an earlier GWX just so I can play a game and have confidence in re-loading it later. For what it's worth, this was strictly with SH3 1.4b with GWX 2 overtop and no other mods. I've since applied other mods like OLC GUI and they have seemingly no effect on how a save game is loaded. Help!"

If you get a chance in the future,
save all the bad files and upload them so I can look at them.
I know it's a pain to do this , but it gives me solid things to work with.
To replicate is a long, may never happen type deal.
The more solid data you all can send us?
The quicker we can hump it like a Rabid Rabbit!!!

I've done a complete wipe of everything SH3 related from my hdd and reinstalled the lot from scratch. I'm about to try loading another new save game and if it crashes I'll copy the crash report and the savegame.

Use the DVD to uninstall for best results.
ANY little thing left behind could cause problems.

Yup, I did that. Dare I say that things are looking up? I've been able to reload the save game once and am trying for a second time, pushing my luck.
