View Full Version : Twin Deck Guns
I have 2 5" 25 cal deck guns fore and aft. However, the crew assignment recognizes only the fore gun. Any thoughts or suggestions. Infact, the aft gun can't even be used in the game.

I believe this has been covered in the mods forum at some point i have both fore and aft 5.25" on my Balao cuz i'm a :arrgh!: and i have no problems with them at all, crew man the slots as per the crew layout screen, look at your upc data files as i think thats probably where your problem lies, if i have time i will post you the files you need to change. Which Sub are you currently using and have you moddified any of the files in any way so far?

JSF... any chance on listing the mods you've installed via JSGME?
I take it your running towards the end of 44? if i remember correctly thats when the bow and stern guns became available... if you havent installed any mods for guns then thats when i think these are available via the upgradepack when you dock. Unfortunately I think you've come across the bug that used to stop crew slots from being displayed in the crew screen, personally i've never had that problem so i wouldnt know where to start. I'd advise you have a look for Crew problems on the forums and see if you hit a thread that can help you further.
being a :arrgh!: i moddified my balao from 43 to have both bow and stern guns which the crews man and i've never had missing crew slots or crew unless i mod the twin 40mm's and put them on the AA slots in which case the slots are there but only one crewman is viewable on deck per gun.
*** Update *** You might want to have a look at this thread it may help.
Look at Finucan's post on the thread below i believe this will solve your problem.

Taurolas, I genuinely appreaciate the assistance. I don't think I'm going to try and configure the files though. Besides, not sure which program is needed to open them with.
The following are the mods installed so far:
Green Lamp
Just more Ammo
Natural Sinking 3.2
Remove Grain Effect
ROW Sib reflections vs 2
ROW very slow clouds
mini chrono
small radar contacts stage 1
Here is the link to that discussion which may provide some light on that issue

Hi JSF,
Sorry about the delay i was looking into torpedo default speed settings with fvd :)
Notepad will open the cfg files, and the excellent S3D will open just about anything else. the cfg files are basically text files that SH4 uses so it knows whats available when... just altering dates can get you different torpedo types diff weapon types and different types of equipment depending on the dates you give it.
if in doubt back up files first!
i would however advise you go look at the thread i posted in the previous post as it seems to me that you have a bug which may be fixed easily by following Finucans directions. its not as hard as it seems.
If i might add another suggestion after looking at what you have installed i'd try a clean install of SH4 and put TM 1.7.5 by Ducimus with RSRDC v221 by Lurker and the other ROW compatible mods by the late LeoVampire and new ROW add-on by Kriller2 and friends. this will change the game completely... seeing is believeing!
Hope this helps.
And to Scrag... I believe you can only use one deck gun manually and all the time i've had 2 deck guns mines always been the fore gun... i have no probs with this as the AI has no real probs hitting ships and as i usually blast things with the deck gun beam on it would make no difference who's manning which one, but then again it depends on your game play style.
