I have only completed in the whole time I've had it, 2 patrols in SH4

my most recent not long back came to a close... so with 25,000 tons sunk here was my reward for it.

Oh heck!

Well... I thought I'd give SH4 a quick whirl while I was waiting for the 2.1 alphas to be distributed.

Still a bit challenging to play mind for me anyway being os used to SH3... the thing I hate most is when you reload the save game... the sub automatically goes to all stop... WTF?? lol

Tell me about it! I remember once loading a saved game, cranking up the TC to x64 and started to read book... 30minutes later I check on it and I realise the boat havent moved at all. :damn:

Been some discussion on that. It does seem a bit odd but for me, it gives me time for my pea brain to remember what I was up too on my last save. Plus, I move the dialog box down to the interface and lock it while I get my mind straight as to what was going on before I saved. Other than that, I find no other reason really to have this function.

It also resets all the TDC settings and if you made coffee in the galley just before you saved you have to do it all over again.:damn:

But it does remember the game you saved. That's what made me quit playing SH3 back in May. I remember the responses to my WTF (Why That's Funny) post over there: Stupid! Don't you know you can't save within x kilometers of land? Don't you know you can't save if there are any ships on any sensors at all? Don't you know you can't save unless you're surfaced (or not surfaced, I don't remember which)? The list went on and on.... And I thought there must be a better way.

Then SH4 came out and I could for the first time think about playing a career without losing weeks or months of progress. I will, but I haven't looked back. Now I can save games in any situation and the only thing that happens when I come back is "All stop!". It's such a relief!

Actually there must have been a solution to the SH3 losing your career problem or nobody would play the game today. So I trust that when I get ready to do it again the problem is solved. But first, I have an American career to finish!:arrgh!:

Hey AVG! SUBSIM question. We can't have different siggies in SH3 and SH4 forums, can we? Good! I can get REVENGE for all the GWX siggies over here.:rotfl:

You can create any sig you desire as long as it is not political in nature and or offensive to others in the community. In fact, if you use TM or RFB, create one showing this and make a crew with the other players. The GWX crew is just that, a crew who play MP and talk via Teamspeak, etc. Basically a friendship across the wires of the internet.

Personally I found GWX to be incredibly great preparation for SH4. I wasted no time worrying about the Japanese escorts, just applied what I knew from the Atlantic, and concentrated on learning to send torpedoes where I wanted! Great cruise Penelope. I hope you return to visit even after GWX 2. I know I'll be over there just as soon as my career is over and I'll be bugging you for help.

@Joea yes, very similar in realism options. Trigger Maru changes some of the percentages because the diobolical Ducimus doesn't want us using the external camera to spot his evil periscope depth depth charging airplanes.:rotfl:Now swdw is set to join the evil plane conspiracy with RFB. We're doomed I tell you, doomed!

I have to admit, i love my plane settings, and while i dont brag, im not ashamed to crow a little about the plane settings i applied in TM. Instead of typing out a long, boring, drawn out post, ill just say..

- THey can visually see farther then any unit in the game, being high up in altitude and all. :rotfl:

- They can spot you submerged from a range of about 2,000 meters or so.

- Their bombs and depth charges have been made more lethal, and depending on the loadout they carry, will explode at around 50-60 feet, or 160ish feet. ( if i remember the numbers right, this was research by tater)

So even though you have radar, and can spot them from way off, they still present a threat. They can nail you if they drop the bombs in the right spot, and at the least, they will advertise your presence in the area which will make nearby destroyer typed units to come around and look for you.

I think they're a very real theat now, in some ways, probably more dangerous then aircraft in Sh3. If your smart, you shoudlnt have any problem with them, but they are dangerous, and historicaly responsible for the loss of a few boats, via the characteristics ive described above.

edit:

BTW, ive been working ferverishly on a new versioin of TMaru, ill post a preview sometime today.

The dark siggy with the submarine is the finest I've seen lately! Too bad I'm a TMophite. Loyalty is a terrible thing. I have this feeling swdw will have something to say about that. RFB just gets better and better. But some of the goodies can be used with TM so who knows what the future holds. I'm pretty committed to doint an SH3 career after I'm through with my Kraken career. On the 15th cruise and RSRD is just throwing the convoys at me like TM never did. I've tracked three convoys at a time with 12 destroyers between them! I thought RSRD was supposed to REDUCE traffic. I'm seeing dramatic increases in merchies but especially DDs and DE's. I'm playing shooting gallery with my MK18s. :arrgh!:
