I am running 1.4 stock and also doing 'LifeGuard'. I see the blue squares on the nav map but when i get there i do not see anything (I am use to SH 1). If I did I do not know how to pick them up. Is there any step by step instructions for rescue, spy drop off and etc? :damn:

Possible they're dead. I've had downed pilots last in the water for only a few days before disappearing...

If you want to pic them up, equip your binocs and a flotation device option should appear when you point the binocs over them. Note that you must be fairly close to pick them up.

Go towards the blue squares. Start looking for colored smoke on the water thru your binoculars. You have to get pretty close to them. There is an icon on the HUD that is a life preserver, when you are close enough, click the icon and you will pick up the survivor. There maybe more than one down pilot so look around. As far as completing other missions, follow these instructions:

Should be noted that there are several command sets on the lower command bar. You'll want to chosse the deck watch set (icon should look like a pair of binocilars as viewed from above). Once in that set and all the previously mentioned conditions are met, then the life preserver icon should be available.

The survivors drift with the currents. The blue square is where they hit the water, but I have found most drift either due N or S (most times the AI moves them S). Point the mouse pointer over the square and click, it will tell you the time and direction. Currents seem to run about 3 knts so for every hour beyond the time they hit the water, they will have drifted about 3 miles. The info may show motion to the N, but I've found many more of them to the S.
As said above, get to the area, look for red/orange smoke. Being on the surface increases the range of your vision, and using the binocs (now that I know how!) helps. You have to be relatively close to pick them up, and it seems you can't be going more than about 5 knots, ie, you have to slow way down. in real life, you'd have to come to a dead stop, so in a way, this is more efficient.

Thanks, I'll give it try.

You may also wish to use the = key to change course toward the red smoke. Using the binoculars mouse over the red smoke and left click then press the = key. You need to hold it down until the navigator anounces that the boat is changing course.

Thanks Joe. I'll try the = sign, but what is the smoke people are talking about?

If you are runnign 1.4, the allied survivors have a red/orange smoke marking their location. It's visible for several miles from the surface, less thru the periscope.
