from another forum
its one thing when like every prophet in existence predicts the end around that date, but when nasa comfirms that **** is going to happen, its just plain scary.
for those who dont know, heres a coles notes...
many prophets throughout time predict the ealry 21st century as the end of human civilization (same prophets who predicted things like the birth of jesus long before his birth)
one prophet from acinet rome predicted that the numbers 9 11 would be very significant one day but would soon be replaced by 12 21 12 (end of our race)
the i ching (sp) which is an ancient chinese fortunes book predicts 2012
the ancient mayan calander ends on 12 21 12
nasa has confirmed that the earth, sun, and milky way galaxy will be perfectly aligned on 12 21 12. the gravitational pull from the sun on one side nd milky way center on the other will cause earths poles to shift resulting in catastrophic events (princeton geologists agree)
the list goes on and on with a butt load of prophets making similar predictions
albert einstien, not a prophet, quotes that the same would happen.
theres also the bible, merlin (not the fictional character), and nostradamus
then theres this computer with AI that was built in the U.S
it was originally desgined to scan the global environment for trends to make stock predictions. it did this with great success and was later reprogrammed to predict other things.
among its correct predictions, with lots of time to spare, are... the anthrax scare, the indo tsunami, katrina, ect ect and then finally its last prediction is the 2012 armageddon.
this cosmic shift that nasa says will happen, happens once every 25,800 years. it was proven that it did happen roughly 25,000 years ago, and at that time before the 'shift', alaska was located along the eqautor. obviously it is not now. (according to the princeton geoligist mentioned earlier)
usually i dont believe that prophecy junk.. but when NASA confirms it....
:huh::huh::-?

And this all fits with an illogical dating notation!

If you read further on it, it is the new beginning. The race doesn't end, but a new begining begins. In the end, it is simply the end of their calandar since this is the date it goes up to. SO it has to start over from that point.

the i ching (sp) which is an ancient chinese fortunes book predicts 2012
Just curious, for I know the I Ching quite well - what should it have predicted...?
If 2012 is the end, and we cannot avoid it (or do not wish to avoid it, judging by temporary policy making and economic system), then that is how it is. The better half of my life already is over, what is coming now will not be as good as what already has been. Don't they say you should leave the party when it is at it's best?
Until then, apocalypse will not worry me. Life that needs to be lived - that is what worries me.
nasa has confirmed that the earth, sun, and milky way galaxy will be perfectly aligned on 12 21 12.
This part is true. NASA has indeed said this. (Well maybe not "perfectly" but pretty darn close).
the gravitational pull from the sun on one side nd milky way center on the other will cause earths poles to shift resulting in catastrophic events (princeton geologists agree)
This part is not true. NASA has not said this and i'd be VERY suprised if a bonafide Princeton Geologist would actually "agree" to it.
It's a common conspiracy theorist tactic. Take a simple fact and apply a whole pile of BS to it. It's like saying:
"The sun will rise in the eastern sky tomorrow morning.....and cause everything to burst into flame"
The first part is true, the 2nd is not. See how this works?

The world can't end in 2012! If it does then the UK has spent millions on the Olympics for nothing! I demand my money back!

I'm rather surprised the Mayans and the others could predict the end of the world 2012, when they didn't know when year 0 began, for example.
Along these lines, I heard a rumour that the Solar activity is meant to be up this year, leading to a peak in 2011.
Of course 2012 is going to be a disaster though, Britain is hosting the Olympic Games! :p

Hell, let it come!
The thing that matters most to me, my better half, im happy n shes happy. thats what counts. i heard an astronomer say that every day theres a 1 in 10,000 chance an asteroid the size of texas will hit the earth killing us all. Sure its possible, but unlikely. Like what geetrue said, cant live in fear!

Wait...I'm confused....did I get owned, or did I own someone?
Hmmm... maybey this is what they were referring to?:hmm:
"Australia will begin phasing out analogue television in 2010, with the process forecasted to be completed by 2012." from:http://www.gizmodo.com.au/hd/basics.html
The end of the world as we know it....Yawn... predictions of doom have been around as long as there have been story tellers. Almost all of them hang on a near future date and point to older predictions that are either inaccurately translated so that "recent" events to "prove" their case or accurately translated but clearly erroneous due to the other predictions around them that were clearly not right and thereby devaluing the source of the orginal prediction.

At least you won't have to pay it off after the games are over!

THE CALENDAR SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD.
It just says there will be a great change. Nothing in there about the fall of man or death and downfall of civilization, just that there will be a great change. Nothing specific, but hey, throw me a bone here.

Like Takeda said. Must be an X-Files marathon going on somewhere.
Oh no fellas, it's far worse than we thought. I just checked my calendar and it ends, not in 2012, but on December 31st of THIS freaking YEAR! :o

The Mayan calendar ends on 12 21 12
Interesting statement but hardly true:
" The Mayans believed at at the conclusion of each pictun cycle of about 7,885 years the universe is destroyed and re-created. Those with apocalyptic inclinations will be relieved to observe that the present cycle will not end until Columbus Day, October 12, 4772 in the Gregorian calendar. Speaking of apocalyptic events, it's amusing to observe that the longest of the cycles in the Mayan calendar, alautun, about 63 million years, is comparable to the 65 million years since the impact which brought down the curtain on the dinosaurs--an impact which occurred near the Yucatan peninsula where, almost an alautun later, the Mayan civilisation flourished. If the universe is going to be destroyed and the end of the current pictun, there's no point in writing dates using the longer cycles, so we dispense with them here."

When the date rolls around I will get up, I will take a piss, I will turn on the TV, and I will go back to bed and not be dead.
I remember when the doomsday date was the year 2000, for same people... Now it's 2012. My question is, when 2021 arrives, and the world do not end, what will be the next date?:p

The fact is the world IS going to end some day... probably not in our lifetime, but it is going to end. This is the way the universe works, and these people are going to continue to keep guessing until the world DOES end... then they'll say, "See!! We KNEW!!" when in fact it was inevitable to begin with.
Everything dies... but that's not the end of the story...

What if humans are so advanced by that time that we have built new sun to replace the real one when it shuts down? :88)

Indeed... and even then, who knows what Mother Nature will throw at us? Hell, the universe is a shooting gallery, not a peaceful meadow with lovely trees beside a cool, clear stream in the mountains. Asteroids fly all over the place, and it's a fact that one WILL hit us some day (just look at the moon; it has taken FEWER asteroid hits than Earth has since the dawn of our solar system). Not only do we have asteroids to fear, but also cosmic radiation waves and black holes (and black holes are a bigger threat to us than most people consider them to be; we're more likely to be destroyed by a black hole than we are to die from the sun dying out!).
The fact still remains we are going to die eventually. It's not a bad thing, either. Death is a natural part of life: a beginning and an end, as it is with all things. Eventually, everything that we know of at this point (galaxies, suns, planets, stars, etc.) will be destroyed... but they're made up of energy (as are humans), and as we all know from Elementary School, energy cannot be created or destroyed...
On the evening on the 21th of december, we are maybe sitting with our family and some of us is perhaps thinking:
