View Full Version : Hitting the wrong keys by accident

In SHIV I keep hitting keys resulting in unintended consequences. I hit enter 2x now by accident, thereby launching a torp. I've hit time compression the wrong way, and the game zipped by at 64x, while a Zero blew me out of the water. I've hit the "dive" button while on time compression, and had my career end 3 seconds later.

Never had this problem with SHIII. I guess those TC safeguards are a good idea.

Dont beat yourself up Captain, I have done those same things and I am sure there are many others out there who have done it too. Keep Hunting

Hah. I've hit the ENTER key, instead of the SHIFT key, too. I was just afraid to mention it before. Thanks for taking the "noob" bullet for me.

Trigger Maru. Reassigns the keys to more sensible configuration.

I've launched torps a few times by accident and I still call the crew to battle stations, when I actually meant to go to binocular view, because of the TM key remapping.

It's not just a keyboard issue. If you have the Torpedo Fire Control pulled out, it sits just below the Attack Data Tool that you use to access the Stadimeter for manual targeting. While I'm focused on making a range check, I've had the mouse come down to the Fire button and send a fish off with the same left click of the mouse. Talk about giving your position away!!!

I've done that more than once. Concentrating on getting target data... then swish woosh... torpedo away. On the plus side it usually goes seeking some porpoise to play with and not giving me away. I put it down to a nervous crewman pushing the plunger.

I followed the Trigger Maru model and switched the command to Ctrl-Enter. Much safer!

I've the fix for "enter" as "ctrl + enter" because of those mistakes ( lot of torps wasted ), but I always use the mouse and click on the "big red fire button", as that's what its there for.:roll:

Now if I could only figure out how to get this to work with SHIV I'd be set:

Someone will bring that to work and when it starts to count down they'll be thrown in jail for faking a bomb threat. :roll:

How do I re-map a key...for example, from ENTER to Ctrl+ENTER for firing the Torps...?

I fat-finger the ENTER Key instead of the "Shift" key WAY too much!

Could you share HOW to do that? I have zero intrest in that mod. I just want to switch to CTRL-ENTER, that's all.

In the keymap config file:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Cfg\Commands.cfg

I absolutely must always change these two...

[Cmd6]
Name=Time_compr_normal
Ctxt=1,2,6,9
Key0=0x0D,,"Enter"

[Cmd313]
Name=Fire_torpedo
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x0D,c,"Ctl+Enter"

The first will bind your numpad enter key to 1x time compression. The second allows you to still launch a torp with Ctrl+Enter.

So if I understand this correctly, The second one redefines the enter key on the numpad to reduce TC - Time Compression - to 1 instead of firing a torpedeo?

If so, that is a TORPEDEO LIFE SAVER for me. I can't remember the amount of times I accidently launched a torpedeo when touching the wrong key!

I understand the first one.

If that is the case, MANY THANK YOU's!

Same for SH3 I assume?

The torpedo fix fireing key ( same in SH3 ),

[Cmd313]
Name=Fire_torpedo
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x0D,c,"Ctl+Enter"

probably should be a sticky by its self as this has been in many, many posts since SH3 was barely off the shelves.

How about it Moderators ?

EDIT: Command found here for those whom did not know:

Yes, works the same way for both.
