Hi Guys
Happy New Year. Sorry it has been a while but moved house and upgraded system and thats my problem.

I have loaded SHIII only to when I launch it it says

"This application can be launched with a release version of microsoft windows 95 OSR2.1/98/ME/NT/200/XP/Server2003 only"

does this mean I have no chance with XP x64 professional?

I've read a few places that the copy protection (Starforce) isn't compatable with x64 systems, so I'd say you're SOL sorry to say.

:damn: Thx guys just my luck.

I have been on X64 for two months so everything looks like staying untill I can get vista

Well I guess I will have to just be content with reading the forums and dreaming about the ocean spray and sea sickness. Though if I spin my chair fast enough and squirt salty water at my face it just might work. :hmm:

Or just go back to a basic XP install if you can. That should work as well.

Thx for all the help and suggestions.

Yes I might revert to just XP but dont want to just do it.

I got this back from star-force support

Hello,
Unfortunately, Silent Hunter 3 is protected with too old StarForce version and it could not be launched on 64-bit operation systems including Windows XP 64-bit edition and 64-bit Vista unless the game publisher releases a patch protected with some newer version of protection system. We cannot do such patch on our side since we have neither unprotected game files required for that, nor the legal rights to produce any game patches.

So I guess thats it no SH3 for me for a bit :(

Don't later shipments of SH3 come prepatched to 1.4b, and without SF?

I dont know about the DVD versions, as from what I've heard, Ubi has yet to "de-starforce" SH3 by patch or other means. Direct2Drive has de-starforced their version of it though, so if you dont mind buying the game again, that is an option.

Yes they do. They can be told apart from the other ones as they list compatibility with Vista, have the manuals on the DVD and no activation code is printed on the DVD.

Cheers,
Stephen
