lo guys

im still pretty early in my carrer in gwx 2.0 but remember late in my career in gwx 1.3... installing the radar warning reciever on my boat...the question is....is it sometimes more of a nuicance than its worth... as i found my time compression nocked down constantly with it... even if the enemy ship had no way of detecting me.
i know its primarily for aircraft but it was frustrating at times.....maybe diving at visual contact with aircraft and "right full rudder" would be preferrable to the constant cut to 1x compression i get.
is it worth getting...am i missing the benefits... or being too arcadey (i hope not)
just thought id get fellow Kaleuns opinions on the suject:up:

Sometimes I -really- wish there was a way to turn off situation-dependent time compression while in-game.

i know mate....i dont want to be too picky with sh3...we cant get everything we want...i know its not possible...its just infuriating when trying to sail to wherever...and detecting warships at many kilometers away..out of visual range and time comression drops constantly!!!
just watch though....i bet some kaleun comes on and says " Hally...just ********** turn the thing off" or something simple like that...im always the last to know s*** like this HA!!!!!:rotfl:

I assume you know that with SH3CMDR you can set the time compressions to whatever you want. Be advised, though, that at least from '43 on your first clue of a contact will be that your boat is sunk.

yea i did know that mate!!!
prob is with the detector ive set enemy contact to 1x whitch suits me every other time in game ...just not with radar..as enemy is usually well out of visuall range

thanx bro

What do you mean? Like ordering your radio-man, to go take a nap?:()1:

Radar warning should not be bought or turned on if you have it. :yep:

you guys take the radar warning for granted.... id love to have that damn thing on my boat... its only 41 and i hate that i only have a hydrophone to find my targets or the rareity of my radioman picking up an intercept of a status report... :shifty:

hell if i had that radar warning, nothing would be safe from my boat.
dont take equipment for granted... itll save yers and yer crew's life mate!

I just got the radar detector for the first time on my curent patrol. It seems pretty cool, but it turns itself off everytime there is a big wave in the bad weather I'm having! To try to maintain a continuous usage, you have to continually turn it back on.

You're confused, I think....the RWR (Radar Warning Receiver - your radar detector) always works on the surface, and doesn't have to be turned on and off.
I think you mean the radar itself - the active device - which indeed turns itself off as the antennae get below the waves.

Yes, the Radar Warning device doesnt turn on or off. Just the radar. Only use your radar in bad weather, or maybe at night, because it doesnt pick up targets too far off.
A good way to see if your radar automatically shuts off is when at the navigation(map) station, highlight the radio guy, then click on the radar icon to see that it's highlighted and therefore "on." Dont click the mouse button again and now you can go at high compressions to see if the radar icon goes off, inwhich case you just turn it back on.
I always dive when there are aircraft in the area, detected via the radar warning receiver. Then I wait a few hours to resurface. In this way it is difficult to intercept a convoy, but that's how it was done in real life. (I think) Just wait until night and you can intercept easier.

Radar is unuseful, I dont even install it anymore. It gives your position to enemies more than returns you nice data. Better to dive and use hydrophones to get position course and sepeed. its safer. By the way, hydro has a longer range:yep:
But I like the redar warning, I always have it, since being under the keel of a DD after 1943 almost means death. I get contact, dive and identify if it is a plane, warship or merchant by sound, then i go for it or run from it submerged at 4 knt... i never fight planes, its not a fair fight.
:arrgh!:

Oops! Your right, I was confusing the radar with the radar detector.
(I'm still curious to see the active radar in action, so far I haven't picked up any contacts with it.)
As for the radar detector ("Allies buster"? :p), can it be turned on or off? (Not that you'd want to turn it off, really.)

Again, send the radio-man to go take a nap...:()1:
