Another 1.4 patch problem

I came across Silent Hunter III by chance surfing the net about 6 months ago and was captivated by the vids i found on U tube and the like, i quickly found subsim.com and become a regular stowaway to the forum and have been blown away by the enthusiasm folks have and the work the modders do to add to and fettle the subsim. I have always had an interest in shipping since the 60s so the sim is right up my street, i had to have it. I have just got myself a gaming computer together and have just loaded the Europe version of the sim on DVD and tried to update to the Europe 1.4 patch downloaded from the Ubi site. The problem is i get the error message when trying to update as follows c:\program files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII\mission engine.dll:unkown version. any ideas folks, the sim plays fine as it is and is keeping me happy as its all totally new to me, but as i learn the ropes i want to patch and add on the fantastic looking GWX 2.0. I have uninstalled and reinstalled even tried the other USA version of the patch all to no avail, i am a bit of a newbie to the inner workings of computers so can anyone give me any pointers to the problem i am getting, Cheers

Check if you have by chance the patch already preinstalled, I think the number to the bottom right in the menu of SH3 should say 1.3b or something, if the patch was applied. I'm pretty sure 6 months ago the budget version that was fully patched out of the box, was available.

May I suggest to possibly rename the thread (if my solution is correct) to something like this: "Getting the message: "engine.dll:unkown version" when trying to patch to 1.4? Look here" and sticky this?

i have this problem as well but when it says it cant install the patch the game crashes and has to be reinstalled i have been banging my head against a brick wall trying to get ubisoft to put it right all i have got is a threat that they will ban my e mails, it seems there tacktic is to blame the computer, not the patch

Yes it was version 1.4 out of the box, GWX 2.0 now installed and i am a happy man. Thanks again Viper, cheers:D

Hi, as Lugworm, load up the game and check, you might have it already installed.
We all have :damn: moments from time to time but I'm sure there is a simple solution to this.
We're a friendly, helpful bunch here so don't hesitate to post if you have any problems.

there is the 1.3 patch i know that, and have just checked again to make shure the cold in my head has not frozen my brain all together, it was there. but no 1.4 patch i have tried lots of time to instal it but i get that mission message,about it being missing i want to put mods on but crashed that many times a bit bothered now i did have the first mod. on before you brought the new one out but lost it when the whole game crashed, so i have tried to put mods on seperatly but no luck i still crash, any help would be gratefully recieved, i even tried the mod activater, and it crashed, still i ought to get promotion, for dogged resistance,:damn:

At the bottom of your screen, does it display 1.3 ? If it does, then you have 1.4 patch installed. I know that doesn't make sense but that is how it is.
Does the game load up and play at the moment without any Mods added ?
