This is my system ..............

Hp pavillion a1626n,Although the only original part is the motherboard as i have upgraded eveything else i think.

3gb 0f pc 4200
amd 64 x2 5400
8800 gts 640 mb
sound blaster extreme music x-fi
250 gb hd
plus a new case.

One of the reasons i wanted to upgrade the mobo was if i got a sli board they are a bit bigger and allow more room between video cards and sound cards, for better cooling,As it is right now my video card is about a inch or 2 above the sound card which isnt good for airflow. The second reason was i cant see the temps for my cpu as the bios do not support it.Make no mistake this pc runs silenthunter without a hitch.Just looking to improve as i know us hardcore gamers are always looking for the next best thing.

Oh ya i have upgraded the cpu as i have said to a 64 x2 5400 as hp said its as far as was tested,Iwas wondering if i could use a 64 x2 6000 2mb cache,Anyone try that on a pavillion a1626n .or can it be done?

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys. One more question guys( I like to ask in here as there are no doubt alot of smart pc guys here)When i use 2gb of ram i get a score of 5.9 for ram under vista performance score, but when ii use 3gb .1 gb sticks. My score drops to a 4.5 because it not in dual channel mode i guess?Anyway i am going to buy another 1gb stick for a total of 4 x1gb sticks will this but me back in dual channel mode?Is it better to use 2gb of ram in dual channel or 3gb in single channel?

Thanks a million .

Yes you're right about the memory speed. You've taken yourself out of dual channel territory. You might want to upgrade your motherboard before the memory, because memory differences often make you repurchase. Since you already have an 8800 GTX, going SLI will only gain you about a 30% improvement if the most optomistic reports are true.

Computer speed is kind of like seeing: in order to see a difference in brightness one object must be double the brightness of the other. A 30% improvement would look good in the numbers but would feel like nothing much changed. If you're concerned about a hatful of numbers, upgrading is great. If you want your computer to work noticeably better, it's a good time to circle the wagons, save your money and wait for the next quantum leap. It won't be long.
