View Full Version : Screwy Patrol Log

Just returned to Surabaya after a successful 1st patrol aboard the Seawolf. The patrol log's rather screwy:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/ZeroNiner/SH4/Screwypatrollog.jpg

For one, the date of sinking of the first 6 ships. Note that I departed Surabaya on Jan 3 '42 at 0800. But the date & time of sinkings is 0008 on Jan 3 '42!

Secondly, the names of the units destroyed. I actually prefer the log in SH3, where the records are in plain English, with tonnage.

For the record, the sinkings are a medium tanker, 8 merchants (various small & medium types) and a minelayer. Almost 38,000 tons in total.

Using TM 1.7.4 only, SH4 1.4

What's wrong?

Thats happens to me all of the time, I think it has something to do with loading saves.

I'll post how to fix this later, but its a manual edit job, but the summation is,

All your sinkings are recorded correctly in the following file:
My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\(some save game number)\SaveData.clg

Since i just completed sea trials, one of my saved games has this in the file:

[Log Entry 0]
Type=0
EntryText=Long 122° 46' W, Lat 37° 45' N|Ship sunk! Parker's Tincan, 0 tons
EntryTitle=March 31, 1942, 05:11
Date=19420331
Time=511
Categ=0

The problem is when you dock and complete your patrol. This data isn't written to your overall career file correctly. This file is:
My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\(some save game number)\CareerTrack.upc

Basically you take the info in the CLG file, and replace the incorrect data in the UPC file. You only need to do this once, per patrol at the end of the patrol. Since the file is continued on your next save, the game doesnt try to write to the same area twice, so your edits will "stick" on past patrols.

Thanks Ducimus.
Would it be possible to write a simple program that could take the correct data and overwrite it in the other file?

Edit: the clg & upc files can be opened in Notepad?

I just use notepad.

ZeroNiner,
Thanks for asking the question. I just accepted it as another flaw in SH4 - glad you asked so I know there's a fix too !

It got fixed in the add-on.

What add-on? TM 1.7.5?

No, the add-on Ubisoft will release later this year.

What info do you replace in the CareerTrack? The fields in that file look like this:

[CareerTrack 1.CareerStatusSave 40]
ID=ID
Reason=CSS_UnitDestroyed
NameDisplayable=Photo Honshu 04_JP Modern Liner#1
CurrentDate=1943-09-15 00:22:11
LocationName=
Location=0,5.13934e-039
TargetLocation=-1.4226,1.32606e-009
UnitDestroyed=PLKiturin,Photo Honshu 04_JP Modern Liner#1
EUnitType=103

But the corresponding one in SaveData.cfg looks like this:

[Log Entry 7]
Type=0
EntryText=Long 135° 24' E, Lat 31° 22' N|Ship sunk! Kiturin Maru, 5280 tons
EntryTitle=September 15, 1943, 22:11
Date=19430915
Time=2211
Categ=0

Any help appreciated!

It got fixed in the add-on.

Ugh. Patches should fix bugs. Add-ons should add features. This is a bug and hence should be fixed in a patch.

Not that I'm not grateful for the patches they've done up to 1.4, but if they've figured out a way how to fix it why not release the fix?

Because that would be too simple...it would make sense...and Ubisoft isn't about making sense...:roll:

I can't locate the *.clg file.
Under a saved game folder, I have only the following files:

ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc
CareerTrack.upc
ReplayInfo.rep
UserPlayerSettings.upc
GameplaySettings.cfg

Looking into another folder, I see other files, but no *.clg

So how do I make it right?

Pick a save that was made during the patrol. If the save is made at port, then no .clg.

ZeroNiner - I was able to figure it out. You cut the ship type from the SaveData.cfg file, in this case "Kiturin Maru" from the EntryText line, and use it to replace just the first field in the UnitDestroyed line in the CareerTrack.upc file. For example, replace "PLKiturin" so the new line in the CareerTrack.upc file looks like this: UnitDestroyed=Kiturin Maru,Photo Honshu 04_JP Modern Liner#1.

You can actually replace that first field w/ any text you want - I replace the various fishing boats and sampans w/ just "sampan".

Zero_niner;
The file Ducimus is referring to is NOT in your main game file, it is located on your C drive under Customer, My Documents etc. I was looking for it on my D drive where I installed SH4 but for whatever reason the savefile is kept on the C drive, go figure.:shifty:

It got fixed in the add-on.
I don't think it did, because I'm still getting it.

@Ducimus, could you expand on your original post about how to fix this? Please.
