View Full Version : OT Performance Drivers
What's up guys. I was just wondering if anybody uses Omega Drivers. I heard some good things about them, but I'm alittle scared to actually try them, especially since I'm not haveing any real problems with my current Cat. driver set (not the latest build).
I'm useing an ATI X1650pro, and it performs pretty well, but if the Omegas could give me alittle more "bang", I may try them. If anybody uses them, and has ATI, how did you install them? Did you have any probs? Under the "known issues", it mentions the possibility of haveing to reinstall your MB Chipset Drivers. From the looks of it, I don't think Intel even supports my Chipset (850E) anymore. Did anyone run into this prob. befor? Any info is appreciated:yep: Thanks.

They are very good and works with my Radeon X1950 pro AGP, which I can't say about the new official ATI-drivers...
I haven't had any problems with them and no need to reinstall anything:

There's a thread where the latest Omega drivers (based on 7.12) are discussed, here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=128257). I've posted my opinion on those drivers. I have the same GPU as you.

I use the Sapphire ATI 2600 HD Pro 512mb AGP card and recently tried the OT drivers while they did work i got a bad case of transparancy issues via the periscope view... could see the sea both sides of the actual viewing circle so i've changed em back to the drivers that came with the card :- Drivers 8.401 (12-079) and Catalyst driver suite 7.8
these seem to be the best drivers that i've tried so far.

Cat 7.8's for me too! I have no problems with them, and I'm not about to start experimenting for no good reason.

Since trying the Omega drivers (yes i uninstalled them) before putting my original drivers back but now i've got problems. I would advise everybody switching to drivers on their graphics cards to do a full backup...
SH4 was perfect before altering the drivers, now no matter what driver set i put back on, and i do a complete removal / reg clean before reinstalling i now have graphical issue problems i've never had before. these are the periscope screen while the scope is down / up and underwater i'm now getting a gradient effect on water colour instead of the smooth colour change the deeper i go.
that'll teach me to change a good running setup :damn:

Did you uninstall using the Catalyst Uninstaller application from the ATI official site? Highly recommended to do so, otherwise you might have traces of drivers left behind when you uninstall.

guys thanks for the replies, i did however do everything by the book... (used to be an IT guy once upon a time).
i do however think somethings been left behind by the Omega unistaller probably a dll file and this has messed up the proper sapphire drivers for the card, the weird thing is its only the periscope view and external cam (underwater) as if the files for the scope view are running in low res with abit of transparency on it so i can see the sea either side of the scope or its interpretting them as such... just very weird.
**** Update **** I've since cleaned out and installed the new ATI 8.1 drivers from the sapphire website the complete package inc ccc has the usuall "cant initialise the 3d engine" problems but there is also a hotfix (basically the 8.1 driver again) which when installed cures the problem (believe this to be the AGP problem others have reported). this version also cures the sunrise / sunset / moon rise / set issues i had before with my ATI 2600 HD card. Still have a problem with the periscope screen being transparent to a degree that i can see either side of the viewing circle and can see the sea / horizon line... any ideas?
