I have searched for a post on this, but nothing came up with how to utilize medics. I have one on my 'boot, and with my current trouble of depth charging, he might come in handy. My question is how do we get them to work?

Simply put the injured crewman in the same room, its a position usually reserved for gunners and watchmen.

But how does one actually utiltize them? Do they work automatically when they are in the same rooms as anyone else.

Yes, it will turn an injured crewman into a fit one in due course. Just don't exceed TC 32 or the change will not take effect.

I must add a little warning here against using the medic :D.
If one of your crewmen is injured during a patrol, when you reach back port you are awarded a specific medal (can't remember its name right now) specifically for wounded personnel (some sort of Purple Heart).
But, if the crewman has fully recovered via the medic, you find yourself in the position of being unable to award that medal. So if you want to use that medal, you must keep the man wounded until back at base, i.e. to put him in another compartment than the medic.
There was also talk here that the medic makes crew recover faster from fatigue, but this hasn't been proved 100% IIRC.

That's a VERY useful info, thanks a lot. The feature is a realism killer a bit though. :(

Hey ...

I was wonderin' ... since this has been brought up ... are there any RESIDUAL effects to a wounded crewman ... like can he eventually die from the wounds received OR does he just stay the same throughtout the rest of the patrol :hmm:

Would be cool if ya HAD to have the medic at least stabilize the wounded crewman so that wouldn't happen ...

Unfortunatly I had crewmembers who died during patrol when wounded, even if the medic was in the same room as the wounded. I guess it depends on how badly wounded the man is.

I guess the medic is really only a male nurse with knowledge about general medicine but in no way a surgeon or real doctor, this was true in real U-boats too, if something serious happend they had to request a real doctor from another ship in the hope there was one in the reasonable neighbourhood.
