Hi, just read this thread about the res fix for SH3.
I know in running the sim in a window gives the resolution at the top of the window.
How do you know what resolution you're running at in full screen mode ?
This has bugged me for some time, I've installed the fix and edited resX and resY,
however I'm not confident SH3 is running at that res.

the resolution you type in the cfg file must be the same reolution your desktop is at or else you will get a ctd.

I can use my LCD to check the resolution it's running. Not sure that will work for you, but mine has a menu button where I can control brightness and stuff like that. There is also something called "information" where the current resolution, frequency, serial number and total running hours can be found.

Personally I think that the game looks a little bit better in 1280*1024, at least on my screen. But it's not a huge difference from 1024*768 and I'm not really sure it's worth losing the ALT-Tab ability for this difference.

Huh? I alt-tab all the time and I'm using the res fix. I'm confused

Wow, that's exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much.
Just tried it as I read through the posts and I have that feature on my monitor too.
I'll reload SH3 later and try the res fix again.

Regards

Oulton :D

Had the same problem. Try to set your destop resolution to a different one that you use in the game. When I have the desktop at 1024*768 and the game at 1280*1024, it works again.

Is there still a problem to use the fix with SP2? I still run SP1 on my gaming config.

Also mind that many people have LCD's or laptops and need the res fix to run the game at native res, so it's not only a question of how goods it looks, but what resolution your display has.

This is interesting. I remember that I was in fact able to ALT-tab out of the game when I start the game in 1024*768 (desktop is always at 1280*1024), and did not lose this ability when I changed to 1280*1024.

So in order to play the game in the same resolution as your desktop, you should:

Start SH3 with another res (in d3d9.cfg). At the starting screen in SH3 you can then ALT-Tab and edit d3d9.cfg again before loading your career (after works too but then you are in the sim and excessive ALT-Tabbing tends to lead to sound problems for me anyway)

I can confirm those sound problems.

I dont understand the need for your suggested procedure (editing the d3d9 config after the game has loaded). In order to be able to ALT-TAB I would suggest to simply set the destop resolution to a low value before you start SHIII and change it back afterwards. I found it annoying but it worked.

Yes, your suggestion is probably better.

The thought behind my idea was to have the "right" resolution both in the game and at the desktop and be able to ALT-Tab. If you absolutely want this it might be better to do a little more work once than doing something easier every time you use ALT-Tab. So it could depend on the situation.

That said I will probably start using your suggested method:up:

Bump!

It appears the link in this thread is dead; so I don't have any idea what the files are that have to be copied as mentioned...

Anyone out there have a link or the associated files for this?

I really need to try to get it to work at my higher res native settings cuz when I upgraded to Vista-64 it seems I lost the ability to play the game with AA enabled, so it looks bad... and at that lower-res on a big 22" monitor it reeeeaally looks bad.

I'm hopeful that at maybe 1680x1050 I won't notice the AA jaggies so much.

Well to get mine to run at 1680x1050 with the resfix I first have to set my desktop resolution back to 1024x768 or I get a CTD.

Luckily I'm using a program called Ultramon that I use for dual displays. It has the added benefit of being able to make a shortcut to any program, SH3 in this case, sets the desktop to 1024x768, launches SH3 and then when I quit it sets the desktop back to 1680x1050. It also restores all the desktop icons to their orignal positions.
