My third career. The other two ended with my ship and all hands being lost after being treated like one of my dogs squeaky toys by some very determined Japanese destroyers.

I'm patrolling the Marshalls when an enemy task force comes temptingly close from the South. I plot and find it. I'm trying to get in position and then realize that it's going to roll right over me. Three battleships, heavy cruisers, lots of destroyer escorts and at least one tanker. I go deep and quiet and hope that I don't get blasted. Then it dawns on me that this is a simulation after all - no need to soil my skivies.

I come to periscope depth at the perfect moment and find an Ise battleship at 1400 yards while I am turning to port. Rapid tube openings and adjustments as I let six stern tubes go; three hits, one dud, another impact and a miss. Things are getting real hot now and I'm expecting to have the periscope sheared off by the gunfire hitting all around me. A long moment and now I fire all four stern tubes; first one is a dud, then one, two and three impacts. I dive deep and wait for the payback.

Depth charges everywhere but none breaking my hull and spilling us into the sea. Two hours pass. Then nothing. I come to periscope depth and expect to see the TF gone including my wounded prey. The escorts are far off on the horizon - ahead of the battleship which now lays listing to port, screws barely moving her at 3 knots. I can't believe this is happening - or that I am not fishbait by now.

Four tubes loaded in the stern tubes. I'm too nervous to move into a better firing angle so I fire all four at her from aft. Two misses and two hits. Lots of flames now and the escorts wheel around and are coming back my way. I'm figuring it's time to head outta here when the battleship just rolls over and sinks!

This could be a very welcome return to Pearl...

I'd say the blind squirrel found a coconut there! Good job of sticking with him and finishing the job. Sometimes you have to carefully advance when every sense, every past lesson and every nerve in your body is saying run away!

Sir Robin is fine in movies, but Admiral Lockwood hates Monty Python. Congratulations!

Good Job, I wish all my TF encounters went so smoothly. Usually I end up dead or not getting credit for a sinking cuz im forced to submerge.:damn:

The squirrel just didn't find the coconut, but cracked it open. Not an easy thing to do.
