"Submerged Battle Stations"

I was watching Operation Pacific last night and several times John Wayne (captain) would call out "submerged battle stations" over the 1MC, rather than sounding the klaxon, which makes perfect sense.

The most humorous part of the movie was how they would shoot a torpedo at a target within 30 seconds of spotting it. I realize that they were speeding things up to keep the audience interested, but talk about click and shoot. Reminded me of my SH1 days. :)

The only sub book I've read so far on the Pacific War also mentions that command. "Battlestations - submerged". You're right it does make sense.

That would be a nice mod if possible, standard battlestations (i.e. on surface during the day, loud klaxon) or battlestations-submerged (i.e. same voice commands, but no klaxon). Hearing the battlestations klaxon on a quiet night when sneaking up to a target is a bit unnerving, LOL.;)

I have heard the phrase "battle stations surface" or "battle stations surfaced' used somewhere, but dont recall where. The posting of lookouts and manning of flak guns would be an obvious difference. Joe S

I read this in books all the time, battle stations surface, etc. Just finished Red Scorpion, USS Rasher. Just about every chapter you could find this said by the skippers.

Some of O'Kane's narrative shortens "Battle Stations- Surface" to "Battle Surface".
I, personally, think a better terminology would be "Battle Stations-Torpedo" or "Battle Stations- Gun".
Simple and could be used on the surface, or submerged.
I really don't like having my deck gun crew mucking about on deck during a night surface torpedo attack.

I think they were using a red triangle - LOL! Also, in several of the underwater sub scenes, they used a Typ VII U-boot with the "net cutter" on the bow. Must have used old film stock from another movie.

I remember in Thunder Below, Fluckey said he was delighted to be the first submariner to give the order, "Battle Stations Rockets!"
