Would it be possible to add random explosions and sinking of ships that would suffice for friendly subs that happen to be in the same area attacking the same ship(s) you are?

In the Pacific War - were there any accounts where skippers were stalking some enemy ships for a duration of time when suddenly their target gets hit by another allied submarine in the area? It sounds like it could have easily happened.

So I was thinking, why cant we simulate that in game with random (rare) explosions and sinking of ships in the Pacific theatre?

The thought came to me when I was stalking a ship - and I realised how long it was taking me to get into position and suddenly I thought, wouldn't it be cool if my target was suddenly hit and sunk by an allied sub in the area ... totally unexpected.

Just an idea

It did happen a couple of times. In one case (The Trigger if I recall correctly), the sub thought there were two radar-equipped escorts with a convoy, one of them out of position. It turned out that one was another US sub. The Trigger moved in and attacked, its torpedoes hitting the same ship that the other sub was targeting, much to its surprise.

Usually the boats tried to keep track of where each other were. They were given information as to what boats were being assigned to what patrol areas next to theirs and they tried not to interfere with each other. Especially, when it came to radar. The USS Batfish log frequently mentions radar interference from other nearby subs and the skipper ordering the boat farther away from the other patrol zone to correct the problem.
