View Full Version : Exploding raft?!?!?

I'm using latest TM, RSRD and ROW(really slow clouds).

I had to plant an agent on the shore near Osaka. The mission went well and I managed to sneak into the area and under cover of darkness stopped the sub and prepared myself for the inevitable SCREECH of the bogus collision sound as the raft bumped into the sub.

Imagine my surprise when it actuall blew up!! I thought I was under fire and quickly looked around as flame and smoke appeared right next to my starboard bow. I went to external view and there was the raft/boat burning like hell with my brave agent straddling the gunnels and paddling away. I backed the sub out with the sound of crackling flames fading as I gained distance. The mission was displayed as 'completed' so nothing lost as it were. Yet another silly little bug the devs let slip by due to lack of quality testing???:hmm:

Now I knew the ship collision sound had been overlooked for the raft so I expected that horrible noise but an explosion?!?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Maybe your agent was Rambo's dad. He blew up the raft to hide any evidence, then swam ashore to kill 'em all. Later he'll swim back to the sub, no matter where it is. Or maybe to the next island, to kill 'em all some more.

I can't play anything right now, so I've never seen it of course; but it sounds like somebody needs to look into it.

I'll explain this in laymans terms.

The various ships have locational damage. These locations are called zones. There are various different kinds of zones. Engineroom, keel, cargohold, etc. How tough or weak, how much boyancy, and what special effects when hit that these zones have, is defined by the zones.cfg file.

These zones are not inclusive to any one ship, but are shared by multiple ships. The life raft, is obviously sharing one such zone that is being used by other ships.

thanks for the insight, it makes sense, it's just unfortunate that the devs were lazy with that particular module.

BTW, this never happened before as I usually point the bow directly at the shore (hence the expectation of the collision sound). This time however, I paralleled the shore with the intent of a quick exit so there may be a correlation there. Also the raft has always (so far) appeared on the starboard bow, ergo this time my sub was between the raft and shore and the boom happened almost as soon as I clicked on 'deploy raft'.:hmm: I think next time I'll keep the shore on the starboard side and see what happens.
