I am so jealous, I thought my 22" widescreen was good but that takes the biscuit. :up:

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it run too. If you do mind, don't tell.

edit: what screen resolution does it run at?

AFAIK, Alienware's DLP RPTV isnt released yet. :hmm: Q2 2008 is the last I heard.

The coolest screen I've ever had the opportunity to play on was a computer projector projecting the screen on the entire wall of my friend's basement. It was like running video games on an IMAX screen. We actually got motion sickness after a while.

I screwing with you guys too - I don't own this, but it may become a contender when it is released. It is OLED too!!!!

Expect a hefty chunk of a price tag.

Good luck finding any games that'll run at THAT res :rotfl:Aspect ratio is all you have to worry about. Tweaking it to work at that res shouldn't be a problem. That Crysis screenshot looks like it has proper aspect ratio by the way.

I have to second that. I've always had problems with their hardware and software... Although that set up looks great :hmm:!

Personally, I'm kind of waiting for good 3d goggles to hit the shelves. Virtual reality will be here soon with multi-core CPUs becoming the standard.

Nice. But I think I'd miss the sweet way my antediluvian monitor pops, snaps and goes black every now and then. :cool:

I had a Matrox when they first came out and it was OK. But I knew which model to buy. The ones I had to support (I was tech support technician back then) were a nightmare. Their drivers were horrible. Frankly, the only reason mine worked was because I was a tech that knew how to tweak it.

Honestly--those experiences tainted my perception. As a small shop computer tech these days, I still don't read any decent endorsements of Matrox products. They just seem to lag behind other companies by a generation or two and I've read that the drivers are still so-so (at best).

I shouldn't have said "Absolutely don't buy it" as I'm not up to speed on exactly what capabilities the cards have. (Maybe they've improved?) I just have never seen them put out anything jaw-dropping in my years as a geek. And a set up like the one you pointed out should have jaw-dropping components to make it worth the cost.

Advice: You've already said it. Tread carefully and look for quality reviews. If it's good, MaximumPC magazine will probably do a review. Very good magazine that isn't tainted by getting an advertising check a week early.

My gut reaction to Matrox (based on my experience) is NO.

Too thin. I like my monitors to be perfect squares. I also don't care for how long it is. Dear God you need a lot of space for it, and space on my desk is something that I lack at the moment (old games, books, DVD's, pens, pencils, bills, many other things . . .)

Some more info on the monitor above:

We must have impressed Alienware's reps with our super-elite Crysis skills this evening, because it only took a little prodding for them to give up some more details on that awesome curved DLP display:
It's definitely coming out in the second half of the year, but the model we've been seeing is just a late engineering prototype -- everything from the internals to the casing is probably going to change.
There are four LED-backlit DLP projectors inside, which explains the lines in the image above, but the final version will show a seamless image.
It's going to be an Alienware product, but it was developed by an ODM called Ostendotech.
There's definitely some heavy-duty image-processing going on to make the images appear correctly -- the Ostendotech guy called it "the secret sauce" -- but most games will support it with very little effort, apparently.
The ideal viewing position is directly in the middle at about two feet away. That's when the image seamlessly appears to wrap all the way around you, and it's just as sweet as you'd expect.
