U-534 was a German IX-C U-boote, one of the largest in the war, suited for oceanic misisons. It was sunk on May 5 1945 but all crew could escape, although 3 men died of exposition to weather. The remnats of U-534 where found by a Danish diver in 1986 and after long efforts it was salvaged in 1993. Despite the damage, its hull and interior where outstandingly preserved. U-534 is one of the 2 last type IX-C submarines in existence. After financial trouble in Denmark, U-534 was bought and transported to a British museum. But now the museum has closed as they're going to build luxury apartments on the land where the Museum kept its collections. U-534 was moved to a wasteland nearby and waited for its fate -good news spread that it had been acquired by a private enterpriser, but now a sour side has arisen. As its current propietor plans to slice it in three parts!

The U-534 is one of two in its kind, and it's unlike all other German WW2 submarines in that type IX-C where really large for their era. The almost intact hull oif U-534 is an awesome sight on its own, and visiting it is an amazing experience -like traveling back in time as the interior is untouched, just as it was in 1945 when U-534 submerged for the last time. It's a rare artifact of the war, and slicing it lika a sausage would be plain outrageous -also nothing has been disclosed as to what would be done next, maybe auction the sections and sell them separately to private collectors!!

A petition has been put online. I already have signed it, and here is a link to the official Save the U-534 site. The links to the petitions are at the bottom of the page. UK citizens may sign a petition specific for 10 Downing Street, whereas international petitioners should sign the international petition.

Sign and spread the new, a irreplaceable piece of naval history is jeopardized with destruction!

Signing more or less depends on this fact: will they fix it up and redo the interior for us to view?
