Hi guys
I am on my first patrol round the Lerwick sub base at AN21 and got a message through saying that the S.S. Bosnia was at coordinates SSS 45.29 N 09.45 W.
How do I navigate using coordinates to find the ship?
Cheers.:arrgh!:

While historicaly accurate the bulk of radio messages are for emmersion, you may or may not find anything the game files decide to place in the message coordinates. Also SSS is a distress signal. Usually indicates a ship being attacked or sinking.

As far as I know this message is only an eye-candy addition, it doesn't give you any real ship coordinates. I'm almost sure of that. Even if the coordinates (and the ship) were real it's quite tricky to calculate the coordinates given only the Kriegsmarine grid map. So… let the ship go her way. :)

Fair enough, cheers for the info.

There is nothing tricky in the least. :) If you use the map that came with the DVD case, you may find that 45.29N 09.45W is right around BF7911. If you then use this converter (http://www.ubootwaffe.net/quadrant.cgi), which yields the coordinates 43°45'00"N 09°02'00"W - that is off the bay of Biscay. In this picture (http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3397/klain6.jpg), the red lines are full minutes - the white lines are seconds, to find that BF7556 in truth the closest approximation. Actually I was kind of sloppy with those pixels, so upon retrying, I made a more detailed attempt.
Okay, I lied. It's tricky. But not VERY tricky. Your map has everything you need - the converter is just for convenience. I found this map (http://www.24flotilla.com/ODSH/tecnica/tm/m-re.jpg) for my second attempt. It was confusing, and the converter says that BF7227 - at 45°21'00"N 09°50'00"W - is as good as it can get. No maps agree very much to this, so it seems the converter is seriously off. BUT, I am about to reach a conclusion... actually I'm not, I've sat with maps now for an hour, coming to no better conclusion that I've already hinted towards. Map projection is something of a problem. God, I'm gonna quit this crap right now.
This website (http://www.24flotilla.com/ODSH/tecnica/tm.html#QUADRATKARTE) has some astonishing maps, I'd use these. :) According to this, the S.S. Bosnia is in peril... somewhere along the line that runs south from 7288 to 7822 - or 7522 to 7588 to be a little more specific. If I were you, I'd just trail this particular patch of sea north-south or south-north, with occasional dives, hoping she is not already finished off.
What date is this, by the way? :D

I didn't get a map with the dvd, all I got was the disk in the box with installation instructions on the back of the cover sleeve. The imanuals etc. are files on the disc. Still, what did I expect for £5.99? Cheers for the link to the conversion chart, this should be useful.:hmm:
If you put the coordinates from the message you received into the converter posted above by Ula Jolly, it comes back with grid square BF7225. Now the message you received is a actual message from WW II that has been included in a mod for immersion purposes. There may or may not actually be a ship there, most likely not.

You will find on occasion that you receive a radio message from BDu or another U-boat that just so happens to be your U-boat......DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE DARK SIDE http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
