Deos anyone know a reference/guide for the symbols on WW2 submarine battle flags? I know the two flags for marus and warships, but on some battleflags the "sun" in the center is empty, i.e. a red border but white inside instead of red. On some others, I've seen what looks like a "T" inside the sun, but cannot find a reference for what these different versions mean.

The white center indicates a damaged ship.

Hi dmlavan (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=228216), good question

And you came to the right place.

The images below are what we used to get started for the Kill Flags Mod. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=122870)

* Capital ships we're also marked over the IJN flag eg: BB, CV, CVE
From what we have researched, the Battle Flags themselves we're all homemade too and to no real standard:
( We would love to here more from a RL expert/boat veteran )

See the Battle Flags site for a good intro and examples of all the different flags from real boats:

SQK774 - thanks a lot! Actually, it was your kill flags mod that got me interested in looking at battle flags and conning tower marks.
I can't imagine how much time/effort it takes to keep making those flags. I've downloaded FooFighter's skin for my current career boat (USS Sailfish SS-192), but probably won't be asking for a battle flag until the career is over - one way or another.
