Hello,
I'm just new here. I got Silent Hunter 4 for my birthday. I really like the game, but I have a small problem. My submarine is going down, without any reason. I have patch 4.
I'm under an air attack, but they don't hit me. I want to dive and I dive to a depth of 70 metres. The problem is, when I reach about 30 metres, I go down without any reason. No explosions, no ground (I was in the Banda Sea and there was more than 1000 metres under the keel), no gap in the submarine.... I don't get it, could it be a problem with the damaged deck gun?
Does anyone of you know how to solve this problem?

btw. I'm sorry if I posted it wrong

Welcome aboard! There is some weird bug or maybe not a bug that sinks your sub for no good reason. I had this happen to me twice. Tooling along around or inside a convoy and you sink for no reason other than you are under the water. Both times I did have small damage. One thing that does happen is your hull, if damaged, will loose more strenght the deeper you go. As a result, it can and often sinks your sub. What I do if damaged and high tail it out of there. I go lick my wounds and do the end round.

the strange thing is, the hull is not damaged... I think I will try again and not go below 30 metres to avoid going down again... I hope it works :D

When I first saw SH4 hit the shelves and as I watched forums, I counted nearly 100 screw ups being reported in the game. It was a train wreck.

I don't know Wave Skipper, mine runs like a train on magnetos:rock:
See if you can restore the game to a point before you were attacked. Keep capable crew in the DC section and check your damage control section carefully for damage. Don't rely on graphic holes to determine your damage level. Look at the hull percentage report and blue bars for possible flooding.
More importantly, don't duke it out with aircraft. They have the advantage. Crash Dive below 150ft. Don't even let them see you if you can help it.
In response to crasy, it's not the same game as it was when released.

Was is key , and even that was to harsh. Alot of the problems were user\hardware related. The game is very playable now and only getting better :yep:

I finished my patrol and I found out it happend if I went down below 50 metres, so I stayed around periscope depth. There wasn't any problem then. I really like the game and I think it is really good playable. It was only weird I couldn't find any signs of damage (nog from the outside as on the damagepanel...). Now I have a new submarine, so my problem is solved :D

I think the only possibly valid complaint with the game not running is with Windows Vista 64 bit edition. Other than that, complaints are overwhelmingly software conflicts or inadequate hardware. Those people with constructive attitudes who have reported problems have found solutions here at SUBSIM. Trollers are made to walk the plank.:arrgh!:
crasy,
When you next find yourself in a shootout, take a look at the hull damage percent in the upper left corner of the damage control screen. It's not on the hull display like it was in SH3. This is the most likely reason you could only submerge to a shallow depth.

Oke thanks, I have seen it now and finally I get why I can't dive to low :D Thanks
My next patrol was almost the same actually, I ran into a big convoy, sunk 10 ships before I needed to go (ran out of torpedoes and my sub was a bit damaged :D)
ye could have ya bow and stern tubes open i forgettabout em and it sinks me on the spot around 60m to80m:up:

The tubes hut automatically after firing. If you leave them open but don't fire, below a certain depth you cannot cycle them. I haven't checked to see if they close automatically. I've dived deep after a thwarted attack with no problems though.
