View Full Version : SH3 Install Problem
Was trying to setup to install GWX 2.0. Uninstall SH3 and deleted other files in folder.
Attempted to reinstall SH3 from CD. Install goes fine.
Now, I can't get past the STAR security to load the program at all. It never even asks for the code to be input.
Keeps giving msg that SH3 engine was modified.
I've been playing with this game for 2yrs with 1.4b patch & GWX 1.03 mods and had no problems, honest, really.
Removed all files with the word 'SH3" in them.
Pulled all app's (Commander, Weather, etc)
Deleted with the game CD and XP's Add & Remove.
Reinstalled 4x w/o success. Same error each time.
I could possibly live w/o GWX 2.0 (not), but not w/o SH3.
Please send help, sinking fast. :damn:

Hello
Now, I can't get past the STAR security to load the program at all. It never even asks for the code to be input.
Maybe bad Star force?? Google for Star force removal program. :hmm: :hmm:
When you remove and reinstall SH3. Star Force is not reinstalled.:down:
Thats why it does not ask for code.:know::know:
Hope this helps :up::up:
Here is the file to search for.. copied from another website dealing with this issue:
First of all you should learn the path to the game: right-click on the icon of the game, select Properties -> Shortcut -> Target. It should be like this, for example: "C:\Program Files\Company name\Product title\game.exe". Here "game.exe" is the name of executable file & "C:\Program files\Company name\Product title" is the folder with the game.
Second, you should unpack UpdateModule.exe from UpdateModule.ZIP to the folder with the game (Download UpdateModule.ZIP from here: http://help.starforce.ru/tmp/UpdateModule.zip
Then press Start -> Run... and type manually "cmd" (here and below you should type the commands without quotation marks).
Type in, command by command:
"cd <folder with the game>" (in my example it will be "cd C:\Program Files\Company name\Product title")
"updatemodule <name of the game's executable> <any name of executable, other from the original>" (my example: "updatemodule game.exe game2.exe")
"copy <name of executable, other from the original> <name of the game's executable> /y" (my example: "copy game2.exe game.exe /y")
"del <name of executable, other from the original>" (my example: "del game2.exe")
"exit"
Try running the game now.
Below is what I typed in cmd to resolve the problem:
Press enter after each line
cmd
cd\program files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII (note III is capital i)
updatemodule sh3.exe sh3x.exe
copy sh3x.exe sh3,exe/y
del sh3x.exe
exit
Worked for me.. Tool.
Thanks for the input guys.
Tool, I tried to go to the site in your note, but it was a dead link.
So the "updatemodule'" option seems out.
Cptn. von Keldunk, I went to the Starforce site and got the remove & update s/w and tried that, but that didn't work either.
Still getting msg that SH3 has been modified.
SH3.exe is showing as 739kb as of 2_27_05
My 1.04b & GWX 1.03 SH3.exe shows as 2.280mb
Maybe it's the drive itself? File is on a bad sector?
Sent a note to Starforce for aid, but expect the real resolution will come from here.
So, for the non, I'm assigned shore duty. Will post you if I get a response or a fix.
Again, thanks. K
Try it again, it works. The link i posted had the ) at the end going into the address.. i fixed it in my above post.
This works.. as i used it, just follow the directions i posted.
Tool.
Ok. Thanks, Tool. Will let you know how it works out.
Well, that's fixed. Wow! Thanks ever so much.:D
Now, of course, the 1.04b says the exe isn't valid and won't load.:damn:
Any suggestions?
Noticed you're from PA. Which side? Am here near Phila.

There are 2 versions of patch, one for US and one for others.. make sure you have the right one for your version.
I'm in NorthCentral, Near Williamsport area.. about an hour north of Harrisburg.

Hi Kuch
A lil confused here, did you remove SF before reinstalling? If not do so. After you re-install try run the patch before removing starforce... Do not run SHIII before hand starforce doesn't install untill the game is first run. Once the patch is installed try run the game then use SF removal tool. Hope this helps, report back if not. FWIW my original disk refuses to install at all any more had to buy a new, not scatched or any blemishes :damn: All this and after buying a new dvd drive too.
Best regards

Well, as expected, the solution came from the forum.
Thanks all for your suggestions.
Tool, your "updatemodule" was the fix, but only AFTER I installed the 1.4b patch.
I'd been doing it prior.
Have now loaded up SubCommander and launched the game successfully.
Am preparing to leave harbor. Will post you all if I run agound.:smug:
For now, All Ahead the Western Reaches (Jerry's backyard, doncha know).
Can't tell you how nice the GWX 2.0 looks. Barrage Balloons in harbors, wow. :D
I'd say more, but I haven't pulled away from the pier yet. Been rubber necking.
My compliments to the GWX Team. Amazing work.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Bugger! Now the fursniggen game won't load missions.
I created a kl thru SubCommander 2.7 w/ updates for GWX 2.0
Loaded & launched successfully. Left the harbor, but had to save.
Created a 2nd kl (type VII) to complement the 1st.
When in barracks to fill out crew, game kept hanging
TaskMgr showed CPU at full usage.
Completed crew roster & equipment and launched mission.
Got about 1/3 to 1/2 way thru and the CTD!
Went back to 1st kl which had a saved game.
Reviewed crew, equipment and launched mission. Same as above.
Had update video drivers from 93. to 169, so ran it back to 93.
Ran virus scan, cleaned out excess app's running in task mgr.
Nothing fixed this. Think I saw something in the forum, but can't find it now.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
At least I can reload GWX 1.03 and get my fix.
Thanks for that bit of rescue. Much needed.
