I feel really bad after finishing the first mission of the career (level VERY HARD) and although it took almost a month, I only destroyed this:

6 Fishing Boats and 2 Planes
The Mission was incredibly dumb, only the road from Pearl Harbor to a point close to Tokyo took me like 13 days. Anyway here are my questions:
1: Are all the missions that dumb? Because if I would have been on my own I'm sure I would have destroyed targets of bigger importance.
2: Can my mission be considered a failure?
3: What did you destroy on your first patrol and where were you supposed to patrol?
4: Why can't I use the radar? I know I have to be at surface for it to works, but it never seems to work, even when I try to use it manually.

1. Are you running stock shipping? If so, got get RSRD and enjoy a better mission experience.
2. The mission is only a failure if you do not complete it.
3. Again, go get RSRD on the mods forum. This mod sends you to logical places during the war. Usually vessels of importance are there. Just need to find them!
4. Make sure you are playing in a year were radar is available. Although you can go to the radar station, it will not work if you are patrolling in a year it was not available. Just the way the developers handled it.

1. Given that it takes about two weeks there and two week back I find a mission lasting one month quite short. Did you patrol at all, or just drove there and back? When you begin the mission they give you an objective, and once you complete it you are supposed to radio in to get another one. They'll keep giving you new objectives until you have less than 7 torpedeos or your fuel level is under 10%. Given that it takes about 25-30% of fuel to get back, I'd stop radioing in after the fuel level hits 40-50%.
2. I can't say if your mission was a failure or not because you didn't include the objective there.
3. It was most likely somewhere outside Honshu, and iirc I sunk abou 20,000 tons worh of shipping.
4. You have to install the radar before you can use it, and it doesn't become available until about mid-42.
edit: Woot! Too slow :)

@Fincuan.1 -> I drove there, searched the surroundings, then I've read on the forum i had to stay withing 50 miles radius of that point to "patrol" it, turned back to it, waited 2 days until it said mission completed and returned to base. Thank your alot for the tip with the radio. From now on I'll radio in for other objectives. I didn't know about this.
@AVGWarhawk
This is what I have currently:

If I got it right I have to install:
RSRDC_P2_v200 for stock 1.4
RSRDC_P2_Patch1_for_V200
RSRDC Patrols V100 (?)
Thanks for the tip. I've read about the addon but I forgot to try it. Since I started playing a few days ago, I've mostly read stuff and didn't enjoy the game too much . I'll start another career with this addon today.
Your correct, except the RSRD patrols show up under the "War Patrols" section of the game, they are actual real patrols by vets of ww2 subs.
