View Full Version : Careers are boring?
Im not into the hardcore realism settings. I just want to be able to go on some career patrols and find something more than unarmed merchant ships. What am i missing? What do i need to do?

If you're looking for more than unarmed merachants, maybe you should try some of the missions?

I'd say.. If you want a career full of nice action.. check the convoy routs map and patrol along convoy routs. LOTS of action to be had there once you find one... especially if you happen upon a task force ! How about patrolling in between Gibraltar and Africa ? Or maybe pull of a raid on one of those pesky british naval bases !!
You'll be so overwhelmed with action that you won't know where to START patching those holes in your sub !

Try starting in 1944, you'll be desperate to go back to 1939.

Even 42 is risky engaging on surface battles i cant imagine playing 100% realism (as i play) would be in 44(never made it that late).
...yep still trying to make to '44 here also...someday...:damn:

You'd be VERY lucky to make it through '44, what with almost constant air attacks or you U-boat day and night, hunter killer groups and improved ASW. I'd rather stick to '39 to about mid '42.

To my mind the Best answer to this question is learn to
make missions using ME
then you can have what you want at will after that.

Ummm. from stock SHIII to GWX2.0, there is plenty of variable action in a career. I'm now doing my first GWX 2 patrol, saw only one unarmed, lone tanker, wgich was a bitch to find in the fog. The rest of the ships were all in convoys. Plent of stuff to talk about once back in Willi.s pubs. :D

I prefer sneaking into the Channel whenever I get a chance. I'm in 1942 now so I can't get away with it as often as I used to :nope:

I wouldnt say boring...you will experience the doldrums of patrol...but once you start your convoy approach BE READY!!! :arrgh!:

Try this one on.
I'm riding out a storm hoping for a break in the weather so we can continue the Hunt and see what our last eight Eels will do. Circling CG84 at 25m doing 2kt with a 10deg port rudder. Pick up an acoustic contact. Turns out to be a convoy. Sweet. So I decide to shadow it till conditions improve, and attack. After three days of chasing 'em through zero visibility, all of the sudden it's a beautiful sunny day. I have a Large Merchant 300m off my port bow. And more importantly, a DD <1000m to stbd. Needless to say the outcome was very unsatisfactory. It became very un-boring very quickly.
