Just started a new career out of Pearl in a Gato, using one of Foo's Black Skins, for some reason I feel the need to go retro lately :yep:

I am on a Photo Recon Mission inside Tsursaki Harbor ( lucky me  )I'll keep you posted. By the way, just before this pic  I was bombed, I was not deep enough, as you can see I don't have much room to go deeper. I'll keep you posted with pics on how I do.

Using the latest Trigger and a bunch of other stuff.

When I'm in those missions I go right down til the bottom of the model is brushing through the rocks. You still have room left even doing that.

Took your advice Pv after getting bombed again.

Have a little room to maneuver, but not much :o
Keep you folks posted.

Edit: Still getting bombed, I love this stuff, no more pussy footing around harbors.

Good idea. You can still go lower... another 30-50 ft at least!

Wait for night and no problem with bombs. The AC are spotting your hull in the shallow water.

Success. Trigger really does make a difference in these missions, nice touch with planes seeing you better in shallow water.

Looking forward to the Christmas break. Will have most of next week off. My wife teaches so she will have a couple of weeks off. The three boys are pretty pumped for the big day, should be a great one.

Lawschool, how far are you into it. Inlaws, you learn to love them ... I guess :hmm:

just finishing my second year of classes, then off to intern in the spring. I am very fortunate that the inlaws are all really great, so it will be a nice break spending time with them. It must be nice to have kids old enough to understand christmas and young enough to still be excited by it. My wife just started teaching 8th grade science and I know that she is ready for the break aswell.
We got hit hard by the storms of the last week but fortunately didn't lose power, I cannot imagine what it must have been like to be caught in those ice storms than struck recently.

8th grade science, mine teaches resource, grade 3 French immersion. We lost our power back a few weeks ago, heavy wet snow. It was out about a day. We have a wood stove here so we just stayed down in the basement.

You'll make a good lawyer by the way, what component or aspect do you want to pursue.

If you ever want an idea where the shipping lanes or air coverage is in the game just open up the Mission Editor, you can go into the campaign and see where the traffic is for everything. Just don't change anything when you are in there or you could screw up the game :yep:

I like the idea of criminal or environmental, but it is early days yet so I am keeping an open mind. Thanks for the confidence :) there are days when we discuss stuff in class and I feel like they are talking in a foreign language!

Either of those areas are worthy, lots of work to be done in both, especially enviromental.

simon: Good Luck with law school! That's some tough learnin'!!!

clayp: When you get sent to an area, I recommend concentrating your time on a line between 2 Major ports. If you can do that, chances are something will come to you. But it can take a while. Hang in there! You'll find the shipping :yep:! And then the destroyers will find you :shifty:...

Cool. I really love this mechanic, i hope its fined tuned more to a more reasonble level. (i think it is) Truthfully, i think what inspired me to hatch this little aspect up , was the pictures and translated reports of the demise of the Wahoo.

Here is a map of shipping lanes. Stick to those areas and you won't have a problem finding contacts.

Yeah  The Pacific is much more about patrolling specific areas than wide open expanses like SH3. The contacts are there, there just a little more difficult to find.

Clay,

For starters you need to at least leave your home port:roll:. J/K...are you running stock traffic? If so, you should be getting quite a few contacts. I did notice however that Celebes is too quiet for stock game. Funning the slot north from Surabya to Celebes was always busy with vessels. Were are you assigned?

TM 1.7 plus patch and RSRD and I've run into 2 convoys so far both escorted by 3 or 4 DD's. I NEVER saw this stuff before RSRD and latest TM. So I'm 400 feet below 3 bloodthirsty DD's with X-ray vision  twisting and turning like a go-go dancer on amphetemines. So I can't see other ships either, but I promise I'm not bored!:o When I get loose this convoy will pay. No quarter!:arrgh!:

Iīm always doing my photo mission in shallow waters at night. So far itīs been no problem getting the shots in clear weather. I havenīt been spotted yet if not using torpedos on my photo targets. I take a fast shot then I drop the scop, the up again for another. I also plan my photo mission so that I have enough time getting back to deeper water in the dark. If I arrive to late for this, Iīll wait for my time in deep water where no one sees me.

By the way when looking at the map with shipping lanes posted by Reaves, no wonder that Iīll not encounter any ships on my patrols around Aleutian Island. Have to take that transfer "downunder" before my crews moral goes under...

It really is best to look at the MIS files in the campaign editor if your curious where the raffic is. The acutal traffic might not always represent whats on the map provided with the game. Personnaly, i think that map is about as useful as the game manual.

I'm also using TM's latest and RSRD...any recommendations if a skipper is searching for juicy Task Forces? I gotta' admit, I love the RSRD patrol missions. I had to sail up to Alaska (finding nothing of course) and then also down toward the Marshalls...both places I'd never been assigned to before. I'd love any tips for good Task Force routes or reliable shipping lanes. Thanks all!

I'm just southeast of the tip of the Ryukin islands. Gave 'em the slip once, came to periscope depth. My periscope was spotted from about a mile away by one of the DD's who came charging down at me. Sure wish I had loaded a couple of Cuties forward instead of all aft. Took a shot and missed. Had to dive at ahead emergency, right 90š turn at 100 ft depth as he dropped, hit the thermal layer at 220', went to silent running and now I'm looking to ditch the DD's and go after the merchies. Note: no more monkey business until the sun sets. These guys see too well. I've wasted enough ordinance to no gain! Now they pay!:arrgh!:

Have I said something like that before?
