Having just loaded up GWX 2.0 (excellent mod there team) I discovered that occasionally when uninstalling or reinstalling that just getting rid of SH folder in my documents is not always the only rogue SH files that can get missed.

If getting a repeat of the SH.exe failed to load type error go check out the

C:\DOCUME~1\your comp name\LOCALS~\TEMP\ etc

and look for a appcompat.txt or any other SH files

For some reason the temps on my comp dont always delete the temp files in here automatically or straight away so hence a conflict crops up causing CTD's and the exe error.

This problem arose after a win update package this week !

Saves doing yet another install and ending up with the same prob.

I got this prob using the 2xmast adjustment for the OLC gui

Best thing you can do to avoid these issues, is to to install&play SHIII on Administrator-account.

And always reboot...after installing the game, after patching, and after adding GWX.
This will update the registry correctly.

I constantly hear fellow subsimmers having problems uninstalling SH3 and to be honest to avoid these issues I don't bother. I do the following:

1. Roll back SH3 Commander if you use it.
2. Delete the SH3 folder in my documents.
3. Rename your SilentHunterIII folder (the one in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft ) to whatever you want e.g. 'SilentHunterIII[Old].
4. Now put your SH3 DVD back in your DVD drive and click on install.
5. Then click on repair, which will create a stock SilentHunterIII folder.
6. Install patch 1.4.
7. Install the latest version of GWX.
8. If the renamed SilentHunterIII folder is no longer needed it can be safely deleted.

I have used this method without any issues for all past releases of GWX and other mods. I hope this helps others avoid the dreaded SH3 uninstall problems.
