Photography: Anyone into it?

Just curious as to which members are keen photographers either as a hobby, professional occupation, or semi-professional?

Importantly if so what equipment do you own and use and how long have you been into this hobby/profession?

Finally, what are your favourite subjects, be it the outdoors, wildlife, sports or any other speciality? :)

I studied photography as part of the design courses I did when I was at college years ago (we are talking traditional wet film/darkroom stuff here, because it was a long time ago). I like it and maintain a vague interest in it since I'm involved in training people on Photoshop amongst other things these days, but to be honest, I don't really have that much time to indulge in it as a hobby, so I currently make do with a bit of a crappy Olympus digital camera, although both my wife and I keep threatening to buy a Nikon digital SLR (she's a designer).

I have been an avid amateur photographer for about three years now. I have a Fuji s6000fd (a 'prosumer'/superzoom/whatever), and since I am unable to employ proper lighting with it I instead shoot mostly outdoors. I've done lots of natural and floral shots but my gallery is mostly a mixed bag.

Has been a hobby of mine since the mid-80s. But I don't do a lot anymore. Back then, my equipment consisted of a Canon EOS 600, which I still consider to be the finest camera in the world :D, an apochromatic 75-300/4.5-5.6, a 28-80/2.8-3.5, a 600/8.0-reflector, and a standard 50/1.4, which I used quite often, additional some filters, and macro-lenses (which are much better than their reputation). I tried to come along without flashlights, which sometimes was difficult, but acchievable by selecting the right film and time of day. Interest was nature, animals, sky, grass, macro-shots, landscape. You know some of my pics from the wmv-movie of mine that I showed in this forum one or two years ago.

Today, I do more snapshot, and shots of opportunity, if that much. For that, I use a Canon powershot A75. But it is no serious hobby anymore.

I've just upgraded my ageing Sony Cybershot DSC-P72 to a Canon EOS 400D. I use the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for general use and I'm getting the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for Christmas for use at motor races :)

I'm definitely an amateur, and only just starting in SLR photography. I'm at my parents' for Christmas at the moment, otherwise I'd post some photos.

I use a Canon Ixus for happy snaps and a Canon Eos400 for more serious stuff. I still use my old Minolta XG for film when I need to get an authentic film look for a particular shot though.

:up: Lucky gess on the aperture of the lens and the shooting speed or I am good....:D. It's always a trill to take photos in cameras that don't have a light metter, but one can get only one or two of an 36 pics film.

Thanks guys for the replies and the pics that some have posted. Since entering the Digital SLR world a few months ago my camera gear has steadily grown to this:

I'm looking for a decent wide angle lense and also a macro lense for "bug" shots as my next bits of kit along with a decent tripod. Oh yeah almost forgot I need some good post processing software to convert and edit RAW (NEF) images. Not sure if I will go with Nikon's Capture NX software or something else like photoshop. :hmm:

My favourite subjects are motorsport and cricket followed by wildlife and insects. I got into this hobby due to an injury before the start of the hockey season so rather than just sit at home on the computer I invested in my first proper SLR camera. The D40 is a great DSLR model for those wanting to step into photography. :up:
