View Full Version : Why my wife is getting REALLY annoyed with GWX 2.0

It's not the fact that I'm playing Silent Hunter III 24-7.
It's... "All ahead *enter speed here*.... "RING RING !!!!!":rotfl:

Some simple advice for marital harmony from old mush then.

1. get headphones sonar pings annoy us and we are playing.

2. always in every circumstance whenever your wife says
"Honey can you.........." Always willingly and instantly
without question hit the pause button and say sure honey
go and do it whatever it is instantly. what happens is that
instead of "dammit you love that game more than me the kids
or real life" you actually end up getting it like this. Observe
after only a few weeks of consistent behaviour and assuming
shes a good woman

SHE WILL GO OUT OF HER WAY TO NOT INTERRUPT YOU WHILE
YOUR PLAYING.

(incredible but true there are dividends to mutually co operative marriages.)

mush is a smart man. listen to him, you must study the strategies of marriage for it is the only war in which one sleeps along side the enemy every night.

my wife simply shuts my door.

and i carry on firing at will

Mush, you are right on the button there, that IS how it works. We have a gender change here 'cos I, the wife, am the gamer and hubs is not, and I think we DO need to be sensitive to our partners because this is essentially a one-person pursuit, and the other one can feel shut out and shoved to the back.

I use headphones when himself is sitting next to me at his computer, but I am careful to instantly remove them if he says anything.

Holy smokes that's why I've been kicked out of the bed all weekend :o

Now by kicked out I don't mean she rolls over and gently says, "Russ, go sleep on the couch" or "Russ, go to the spare bedroom" the minute I lay down. I'm saying I got both legs in my hind quarters. :o

I'll be taking notes :know:

I personally like my advice. Date/Marry a gamer, or at least a nerd. I've gotten my girlfriend interested in SH3, Das Boot, and so on. She's sat and watched me play before and loved every minute of it.

Now all we need is an apartment, and we can play at 1x time compression with the volume turned up at night:hmm:

The title of this thread is probably the best proof of how good GWX is. When I think of all the things I do to annoy my wife, GWX being annoying has got to be a pretty powerful endorsement. Uhhh...excuse me while I get back to my campaign...

Hehe. My wife is a nerd but a total non-gamer. She's a book reading nerd. Obnoxious noises annoy the hell out of her... and I'm an experimental musician who creates strange and annoying noises and wierd chaotic musical (or non-musical) instruments for a hobby. Go figure.

We have a tentative agreement. I don't work on my music or sonic sculptures/musiq concrete/noise music while she's home. A lot of my devices have no headphone plugs so they have to be reccorded with microphone unfortunately. I can use headphones for most stuff.. but it just doesn't feel right. I like the surround sound in this music room. It's nicer than headphones.

I think what I'm going to do is simply FIND that sound file, use my audio editor and quiet it down or save another wav file in it's place.:yep:

I'd say start mentioning that you use the fact you lead the GWX team in your pickup lines. If her eyes light up and she says "Really?", I'd say you got a keeper

No, not proud, but the fecka deserved it. They got engaged that day and the fecka just played CS for a 5 or so hours straight as the rest of us were getting drunk and celebrating. We eventually got caught and he yelled his time there on the door, punched a hole to our bathroom door, went to a smoke and then he continued to play CS.

It's happenened a couple of times - just finished perfectly setting up on a convoy after a long approach/intercept, contacts everywhere, no hope of a "save" without the "crash of doom," - "Sweety, I need the computer."

Oh well, maybe I can reaquire the convoy tomorrow....:D

Yeh, he's addiction was pretty strong. Every single time we were drinking here in my house, he spent the whole evening playing. Only to go for a 30sec smoke at times. Crazy.

Well, I`m too old to worry about what my wife thinks of my sims, actually she has her own laptop, and games to her liking, so rarely bothers me while I`m playing. I also have a good set of headphones, that keeps down any gripes about the game being too loud. I`m also lucky to have a good size computer room all to myself. Puts

If, and when, you do go to sleep some day, she MIGHT whisper to you:
"May the Force be With You." [Star Wars comes to mind].:D

It may lead to additional troubles playing DWX 2.0 24x7 several months later using "the power of the Force, Luke".

My wife these past several months has taken to calling me "Herr Kaleun" and yelling "ALAAAAAAAARM !!" a lot.
Not to mention, the other day when I lost her in the grocery store, when I DID spot her several hundred meters away, I actually had to calculate her speed, distance, and angle of bow to intercept her properly. I havn't started taking my binoculars with us so I can stand watch out the sun roof of her car yet.:shifty:

I have headphones, but occasionally set the volume too high and get "You're ringing again!" from the chair behind me.
The other half doesn't hate Silent Hunter III though, she likes it when I blow merchants up :D Not sure if she understands my intense adversion to anything that sounds like an active sonar ping though ;)

What we need is a subsim alarm clock that makes the sound of an active sonar ping !!!
Or even better... one that yells "ALAAAAAAAAAAAAARM !!!!" when it goes off !!!:rotfl:

Look in your Silent Hunter III folder
Go into DATA
Go into SOUNDS
Scroll down till you see the wav files Sonar, Sonar_coat, and Sonar_imp. They are all wav files.
