The german Rondomedia version. Sofar the best 4 Euros I ever spent, but I suppose you don't know the other 4-5 Euro games I bought :rotfl:

So I will start asking the usual n00b questions.
I saw some mods but does it come anywhere near a SH3 or 4 campaign?
How moddable is this? I saw the russian things but is anyone working on new objects?
Can somebody make new textures? The basic game is ok but the textures look really old.
Are there compatibility issues between the international and the german version regarding mods? Because some of the internal files seem to use german language variables.
I can help with backround research and historical info (and translation :D), but I'm neither a graphic artist nor a programmer, but I've got tons of ideas.
First, there are hundreds of german subs which could be added.
Then there could be a "sailor of austria" campaign. Is there a med map?

As far as I am aware, it's the same files for all objects regardless of whether you have the German version (as I have, since there was no English version when I bought it!), or the translated version. This would make sense, as it would simply be creating work to rename the graphics and program files instead of just putting in a few translated graphic interface files and a manual in English to create the other version. In other words, any mods will work in any version as far as I know.

The textures are just like any other sim, and just as easily moddable, and in general, it's easy to get at stuff to change it, so yes, it is very 'moddable'.

I don't understand why people are so down on this sim, sure it has a few problems, but there's definitely fun to be had with it, and it's not as if there is another WW1 sub sim alternative.

When I am not quite so busy, I might have a crack at improving some of the textures, but as it is, since you cannot zoom the external camera, I don't think it's a major issue at the moment!

:D Chock

Well, my main gripe is environmentals: Sky and Sea textures. They just look kind of weird. Ok, granted the North Sea really looks like that some time, but still it is a bit depressing...

On the other hand, I could hardly believe that you could actually lay mines!

But I must admit the "L" function seems like cheating to me.

What struck me with that game was the language. Ok, its a german game so the usual rush job translation wasn't necessary, but still, you can notice that the game was written by somebody who was interested in submarines. The tone and the choice of words are just right.
Also, in the german version is a PDF history of WW1 attached which sounds like somebody's university semester work with footnotes and all.

I was disappointed with this as well. CB pointed the way with this but it really needs a root and branch overhaul.

Weird. It adds more interest to the theories of where this game originated and why it was chopped about.
