View Full Version : GWX 2.0 initial comments.
I super scrubbed my computer for anthing left from previous installs and sure enough found odd files trying to hide.
The downloads and installation went smotthly and the game uploads at the same speed if not faster than the Earlier GWX.
I'm about 20 MB short of the recommended ram and have a Navidia 5200 graphics card.
It doesn't take long to see the 2,0 improvements. The engine room sound telegraph is great. The new compass rose, which allows you to give precise heading orders are nice goodies.
No tails on the ship symbols make things a bit more interesting.
What amazes me, is how Kpt Lehman and his crew managed to optimize the game without creating a higher requirment for the computer. Us poor folk are grateful .

Gotta give thanks to various Coffee Companies!!!
There were days I know I drank 5 or 6 full pots!!
Nearly EVERY file in GWX 2.0 was looked at closely.
Redundancies were removed,
any units that had various problems were corrected,
multiple dats were combined into single dats where possible,
and that's just what I recall off hand.
:hmm:
It all adds up to haveing more, but not paying the higher load time price.
And the Beta Testers!!!
If something wasn't right on,
They'd let us know!
Again and Again and AGAIN!!!

So far I'm loving GWX 2.0 -- I only wish I'd backed up my gramophone folder before the SH3 re-install -- D'OH!!!
Well, so far everything works, and I'm grateful as can be! What a team! "Gute Leute!"
I dig the giant slide-out compass, and the buoys and barrage balloons in port! And I just spotted a Japanese freighter off the coast of Portugal (1941) -- that's a first!
Mach's gut!

By the time Operation Drumbeat starts, you should be able to upgrade to a IXC with engine modifications and patrol for at least a few weeks. Even with the IXB it's doable.:yep:
The transition to the US coast should be done a 8kts and your entire patrol should be conducted on minimal fuel requirements. Racing around at higher speeds will not work. Short burst of flank should be possible, only to chase down a contact but you cannot go after targets that are moving away from you. You just don't have the fuel, just as RL.
However, when the IXD2 becomes available, it's a different story. Patrols can last in excess of 90 days, with 30-40 in your patrol area.
The IX's are more than capable of conducing an extended patrol on the US coast. I know, it's my theater of choice.

Yup, Balz is a DID guy.
First GWX2 convoy encounter.
First, got jumped by a Destroyer waay ahead of the convoy. My Hydro man was sleeping.
Battleships inside convoy now zigzag.
Skins on various ships are really something to see. This completes my initial test, as I wondered how game would behave with heavy traffic. No different than the early GWX. If your machine handled GWX 1,3, it will handle the better stuff :D
