What does the Merged Campaign mod do ?? I found no reference in the GWX 2.0 manual to it.
Also, The Enhanced Damage FX... Does this make the "Torpedo_Damage_Final" mod that I LOVE obsolete or should I use both together ? Is the enhanced Damage FX just for shrapnel and cool explosions and fire and stuff or does it integrate cool looking holes blown in the sides of the ships like the Torpedo Damage mod ? I LOVE seeing those mammoth holes blasted through the ship's hull and making them look like swiss cheese with my deck gun.

i hope you get an answer - i found no mention of either of these within the manual though it is possible we both missed it.

and trust me ... I RTFM

EDIT: on a related note, who wrote the manual? was it a colaborative effort between all the GWX devs or did someone sit and write this magnificent bastard?

I love technical writing! im mildly Obsessive Compulsive and this manual is well put together!

Yeah. I've actually learned a LOT I didn't know from that manual !!! It should be available in a library ! It's got more technical info in it than about 90% of the submarine books I've read.

I still would like to know the answers to my questions. I want to know what mods to put in ! :hmm:

I couldn't find anything in the manual on merged campaign either. But, i did a search on the forums here and found this.

merged campaign combines the black sea campaign, indian ocean and regular into one file, load time is a bit longer but it's useful if you want to do the monsoon boat thing and sail from france to penang

I don't know if the torpedo damage mod will be obsolete, but I think it should work with 2.0 as there are only TGA files in it. I haven't had chance to try 2.0 yet, my own machine is havbing problems so I can't say if the enhanced damage mod has it's own torpedo damage effects. I presume it would.

I think I read somewhere that the Enhanced Damage FX is related to additional eye candy eg fires oil slicks etc

Not sure about the torp damage I have yet to crank up GWX 2.0 and check it out

The torp damage mod is excellent use it myself, mamoth holes in hulls gives a good effect

Merged Campain Mod go to mission editor zoom out full, open scr in de campaign file and then open de scr file in de merged campaign and you wil see the differents

Hi!

The Enhanced Damage FX mod was a late addition and so will be described in greater detail in the next release of the manual. I don't know if it obsoletes the "Torpedo_Damage_Final" or not; perhaps you could try it and tell us?

The "Merged Campaign" was another late addition. The default GWX campaign concentrates on the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and there are separate campaigns for folks who start and end their missions in the Black Sea and in the Indian Ocean.

The "Merged" campaign is primarily for folks who are starting in the Atlantic and shifting their base of operations to the Indian Ocan, and vice versa, as it contains all the campaign elements for the entire war as fought in GWX. If you don't use the merged campaign you will find either the Atlantic/Mediterranean or the Indian Ocean to be oddly empty as you shift locations.

I'm responsible for the manual, but I will be the first to acknowledge that several team members contributed to it directly (they are cited in the relevant sections of the manual), and the entire GWX Team made a great many constructive suggestions and criticisms since I started building the V2.0 Manual from the V1.03 Manual.

BTW, I welcome those constructive suggestions and criticisms from anyone, not just from the team. :)

It workes fine so far. I also run Enhanced Damage FX.

Presumably you have to be in port before applying the 'merged campaign' mod? At the moment I'm concentrating on the Atlantic but later in my campaign I might want to venture into the Indian Ocean.

That is correct. The Merged Campaign like any other mod MUST be enabled/disabled after you're in Port and you Rollback SH3Cmdr.

I had some problems with Enhanced damage FX, in the way that I had to many explosions from to little damage ( 2-3 gun rounds) that slowed down the game

Has anyone encountered this?

So far as I understand, (I saw it mentioned on another thread - can't find it now...) Enhanced Damage option enables more graphical goodies that make fires/explosions/etc on stricken ships more realistic (that's to say, more frequent)... However, like the 16km atmosphere, it will slow down computers without high end processors/RAM/graphics cards. Enable it if you like juicy explosions, disable if your computer's struggling...

As for the Merged Campaign option, I'm eager to see someone's answer too! I have no idea what this does, but enabled it anyway... What the hell: It's from GWX 2.0... It must be good!

Well, I tried this enhanced damage thing vs. Racerboy's Sh4-Effects for SH3 mod, which I loved and hoped for it to be integrated in GWX 2.0. ;-)

About GMX ED mod: I must say it was very satisfying to see a coastal freighter light up like it was filled with nitro or antimatter or something, this is really EYE CANDY. No more, no less, because to be realistic, its a bit too exaggerated.

My PC thinks the same, because the oil slicks after the hit gave me about 1000 big explosions.....wich made my game CTD.

Sorry, I think I'm going to stick to the SH4-FX-Mod ;-) maybe a mod right between both of them would be a solution.

My hope for SH5: make compartments EXPLODE, not only lay an explosion over the ship model. Make the explosion come from within the ship just like it would if the cargo had gone boom. And use the pieces of the hull as particles, so that e.g. after a magazine explosion, a warships entire bow is missing. But i'm sure it would take an alienware-PC for this.
