U-68 is lost.

September 5 1943 around 23:30
On her 24th patrol to FK47 the type IXc u-boat stubled upon a small convoy existing of a medium cargo and a medium and small tanker escorted by a single corvette escort. Planning on attacking the escort first she lay in wait.
But when the corvette started an escort maneuvre, her commander Canovaro, whose service with the uboat weapon started at the beginning of the war, changed strategy and attacked the medium tanker after letting the medium pass.

The uboat dived after releasing three torpedoes and waited for things to happen.
After three impacts, the corvette found the U-68 with asdic and started the attack run.
When the depth charges fell, at 70 meters, Canovaro ordered full speed and full starboard and send the uboat right into the falling depth charges.

There were no survivors.

Schiesse, another one bites the dust. First, Herr Ziepel, now U-68. Balz shall hopefully follow.

It seems, gentlemen, we are slowly sinking in the war.
