It's insane isn't it? If you dig deep enough, I've found nice good sized Gato class sub kits(with ballast system) that are mind blowingly expensive and good looking. I used to be into R/C boat stuff when we lived on a lake. I can't imagine taking an R/C sub in those dark infested waters. If you have access to pool, it would make a real fun hobby. When I was a young buck, I got these plans to make an R/C sub out of PVC pipes. Nose, dive planes, and conn tower were made of balsa wood. No tank system of course, all buoyancy work. It worked, cheap little project. Hardest part is keeping the electronics dry with a nice servo/rod system that keeps out the water.

Been thinking about getting a nice air brush kit and diving into plastic modeling. I found some nice naval ships and subs that would be fun to paint and piece together.

Surely there lies madness and poverty.:-?

Jeez, and I thought those subs that you put baking soda into that submerged and surfaced in the bathtub when I was a kid were great:o

It's insane, i agree, but cool....very cool. The idea of that boys never grow up is very real, its the size of the toys that grows.

Do you have the link for the gato you mentioned? Would love to have a look:)

You're going to love this. They have two videos: One of the Gato class model that gives you a 360 degree view of the ship. The second video is the Gato sub in action diving and all in a pool. They took the Revell 1:72 scale model and converted into an R/C Sub. The kit uses the high dollar gas ballast system too:arrgh!:

They even have a kit for you to attach an underwater video camera with feed on your video goggles:rock:

There is one other website I'm trying to dig up for you. Been playing with certain keywords on the search engine. I'll post it for you when I dig it up. This site I'm looking for has the full working ballast system US Subs/U-Boats. They are also smaller than the previous link sub.

You can get a ready-to-dive Skipjack (http://vabiz.com/d&e/products-new.html) for $2900.00. Just google "RC Submarine" and you'll get tons of hits.

Personally, I want my own submarine yacht (http://www.ussubs.com/submarines/phoenix_1000.php3)
