View Full Version : Best memory of 2007
What has been your best memory from 2007? Mine must be attending the rollout of HMS Astute.I have a picture as my wallpaper and every time I look at it I cannot believe I was there!

I saved a co-worker from choking to death by using the Heimlich maneuver.
I had never practiced it before. I had only seen a demonstration. At first I did not give it too much thought untill, my wife told me about a friend's husband who choked to death in a crowded restaurant.

:D
I'm with Kapt Phil on this one, best memory is the other half finally moving in with me after four years :D Best memory I'd rather forget? Almost being put underwater by the North Sea surge a day after watching the film 'Flood'
Then of course there was going to see Bill Bailey in Birmingham, and Andy Parsons and Frankie Boyle at Colchester. Very funny stuff!
My brother-in-law asked me about my trip to see Astute and I replied that the trip was akin to travelling 700 miles and 16 hours to go and stand outside a very expensive restaurant.I saw the shop front but the inside was very definetly off limits. It was still worth it though!

2007... lets see... It was the worst year I've ever had... I got hospitalised in the beginning of it on my birthday no-less.. and I've been on dissability since... My health has gone to crap.... I have an incurable and mostly untreatable dissorder.... Been hospitalised several times since....I'm barely scraping by with enough cash to sustain my wife and I... I lost my job because of it... I've had thousands of dollars worth of medical testing that I went through that I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to pay....I've been turned down for Social Security as they didn't even READ the information on why I was dissabled and just skimmed over notes and picked the one additional thing that was in there that had nothing to do with the dissabiltiyand made their descision as if that was the only information they had....and it doesn't look much better the seccond time around. They seem to not want to read all my documentation. It's like they pick a page at random, skim through it and make their descision.:stare:
I don't think I actually have a good memory from this year. 2007 STUNK !!!
Maybe the only decent thing that I somewhat enjoyed doing was that I made a Myspace page that I force myself to update daily to give me something to do.
I'm hopeing to start next year off much better. I'm being proactive and I'm trying to rally up a club for local experimental musicians and artists to meet at my place to do experimental reccordings and art to be released into the public domain and share reccordings and such with others in the club to give us experimental artists a place to showcase/share their stuff, work together to create new stuff, learn stuff from each other...etc...
I'm hoping to get this going by next month. I'm starting with just the experimental music aspect because I have reccording equipment and gadjets and stuff to build experimental instruments here. My state has NO experimental art scene at all. Doors are very closed to artists unless they are mainstream dance, orchestra, art, classic rock, or mainstream plays or musicals. The club I'm forming is hopefully going to give an outlet nomatter how small for these artists and with enough people working together (And I've already been in touch with a few), we may be able to raise awareness of the more fringe art that's out there or at least get some public workshops or small festivals organized.
That's my plan to make my life better. If that works... it will be my hapiest memory of 2008.

I had a great afternoon a couple of months ago breaking wind. :D
Man did I rock the crowd and made them laugh sure did.
Apart from that and a few other small events, 2007 was just another year of tax, bills, prices going up etc etc etc. ;)
I predict 2008 will be just as the same with more tax and price rises. :shifty:

Going home for a veterans reunion in Tehran.
Worse memory . . . losing my mother-in-law, and watching my wife settle into a state of depression for an entire year because of it. Literally stopped her cold . . . been room bound until recently.
Best Memory . . . waking up to a warm smiling/caring face:hmm: . . . to bad that couldn't last :nope: . . . well back to the 'aftermath show'
For those of you who have been married for a long time . . . what do you do when that spring of happiness that you get with being with someone runs dry . . . and you no longer feel that way?
I won't lie, this has also been my worst year ever. Barely kept it together this year. I actually lost someone too, to what now almost certainly appears to be an unsolved (and unlikely-ever-to-be-solved) murder. Don't feel like going into detail, to be honest.
But staying with the positive - I think my best moment this year was finally going over to the other side of the classroom and running the show all on my own (I ran a series of workshops for freshman classes, which is my first direct teaching experience - and I have to admit, I'm only all the more convinced that teaching's what I want to do in life :yep:)

Not been a great year for me either, breaking my wrist in February, in a funk academically and job wise, health problems in the family. Not to mention my uncle (Mom's older brother) passed away last Saturday, although that was kind of a blessing as he was 82 but had been in very poor health and a vegetative state for a few years.
Still have good memories this year thanks to the family, to a couple of friends who are my second family here, and a larger circle of friends from Uni and work. Went to the mountains in July, biking with the new bicycle as well, had some fun parties and outings. A great gaming weekend playing refereed wargames of the Battles of Narvik and the Bulge. Here, I beta-tested GWX 2.0 and had a great time doing it...very honoured to be associated with a great bunch of people.

I was misdiagnosed for a potentially lethal disease in spring. The day it cleared up was the one nice day of 2007 for me.
the other good day was when I had decided to change my testament in favour of the two little girls of a close girlfriend of mine who returned with her husband to a city close by after years of moving around, and the mother and the kids hugging me, with the mother having wet eyes, and afterwards telling me she wants me to help educating and teaching the two sweeties. That made me feel like being accepted part of that family. Living alone myself and no longer imagining to ever have a family myself, that gave me a warm and intense feeling as well.
2 scores out of 365 - well...

Maybe I'll have to say that my defining moment of this year was when I actually sunk 7 allied ships including one large battleship (I killed the battleship with ONE torpedo somehow. Lucky shot out of my aft tube as I was running for my life. I have no idea where I hit it.. had to have been on the bow somewhere.. but she went down quick) in SH III. Oh yeah.. finally getting GWX 2.0. Nice Xmas present there !
I guess I lead a sad no-life.

Second best I think was getting to see my old friend Jafur at the reunion. I hadn't seen him in nearly 10 years. Good to get together and talk.
Friends are nice to have, aren't they?

my #2 would be my partner graduating uni at long last
my #3 would be a secret, keep pestering me into the new year and i'll see if i can let the cat out of the bag!:smug:
Seeing Stephen Marley, The Wailers, and Daft Punk all in one mind blowing day at Lollapalooza 2007 in Chicago.
Transferring to a boarding school where I get to ski every day and the people are all dope. (I know thats not 1 day, but w/e)
Every day I got to ski.
Sparking up a fatty J with my friend from Kingston, Jamaica on my roof in NYC on a beautiful Fall evening. It was beyond belief :smug:.
There might be others I'm forgetting but... wait... that would make them NOT memorable, wouldn't it? :hmm:

Moving home to Ireland from the US was nice, although bittersweet. Since September I seem to have been living in the library, so I'm fairly short on memories that don't involve calculus or Bertolt Brecht :p
Best memory? Meeting my girlfriend and moving in with her. Bliss.

I believe that the Wii has become very popular in retirement homes, due to this and other games that it has in it's range. Just watch out for revenge, like taking you to a real bowling alley and challenging you to a rematch!:damn:

i have a few good memories from 2007. The first would be graduatating from high school with a 3.2 gpa and starting college- just community college though. the best best part about that is that my last day is tommrow, and i dont have go back till jan 14th!
also getting a chance to go to Augsta, GA for four days for The Masters:D
the othe one would be finnaly getting a car. its a 1990 Poniact Bonneville- only has 97,000 miles on it!

Well, the good side is that my year wasn't as bad a some other folks had. My dad just turned 80 last week, and I've read a lot of good books and made a couple of new friends.
On the other hand, I'm still technically homeless, and I haven't played SH3 for a year-and-a-half, and haven't played SH4 at all.
Still, I'm alive and reasonably healthy, and working on-and-off (not enough to fix my situation yet, though).

2007 has been a horrible year, bring on 2008 and hopefully Murphys laws wont bite me on the arse. The one im refering to is "When you think things cant get any worse, they do". Then again, now that i think of it, New Years eve might bring me a new scar or two, but that remains to be seen.
