All it wants it a hug :p
You simply cannot imagine what a huge source of disappointment it is that they didn't go with my idea for a sequel:

You are joking the first one was BS and this one is more BS any true ALIEN fan like me would never go and see an insulting film which insults the ALIEN with this kind of BS.
BTW, on another forum they hate it.

The sequel isnt out yet, yet you deem it BS?
Imagine how much pressure there is to make a decent movie - two of the biggest movie franchises ever and two crossover movies everyone wanted to see
The first one wasnt great, but it certainly wasnt BS.

Following this on a film forum, news update so on. Nearly everyone there hates it and state it should never had been made
It's only a film for the brain dead, crap actors crap acting big SFX lots of guns and a really silly crap storyline. Hollywood can churn this BS out and make a fast buck from the brain dead.
The first was BS and that's a fact, it stank.

I agree. It was like The Cube, but with Aliens and a Predator.
The games were better than the movie.

I really LOVED The Cube. I thought it was a pretty clever and interesting little sci-fi film. The sequel to The Cube (What was it called ? Hypercube or some nonsense) totally didn't make ANY sense and completey was a piece of crap that had NOT continuity with the original. It was as if the people who made the sequel just read the description of the first movie without watching it and made a sequel.
Starship Troopers is my biggest example of this. Take a FANTASTIC and CLASSIC science fiction book from Rober Heinlen, a MASTER of science fiction and a damn good writer. Just read the description on the back of the book without even cracking the book open... and you end up with a movie that ISN"T EVEN THE SAME DAMN STORY THAT'S IN THE BOOK !!!! And one of the characters sex is totally different in the movie than in the book... all because they NEEDED that naked shower scene and the love angle for the end when the true love woman (WHO WAS A MAN AND CERTAINLY NOT A LOVE INTEREST) died in the end. They also totally eliminated 99% of the story from the book. They did away with the battle armor and made these guys just wear reused props from the Aliens movie. They totally got rid of the race they SHOULD have been fighting called "The Skinnies". I can't go on enough about how Starship Troopers pissed me off when I saw it. They took one of my favorite CLASSIC science fiction novels and turned it into "The OC with an army !":stare:
First Alien movie is great, second one is cool and good fun, after that they started to decline a bit, but had their moments. AVP was okay, but it was poor in comparison to the other Alien and Predator movies, of which, I still think Predator is one of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever made.
I'm actually a big fan of the Alien movies generally speaking, I even bought some of the set from Aliens (Part of the Sulaco - how's that for sad?), but to be honest after seeing AVP at the movies I only really bought the DVD to be a 'completist' as far as Alien and Predator movies go. That's because both dramtically and in terms of believability within the Alien and Predator genre contexts it pushed credibility and it broke quite a few acceptable dramatic premises as far as scripting goes, but not in a good way.
Anyway, I'll go and see the new flick, but I don't exactly expect a masterpiece.
Oh, and as silly as it was, I thought The Cube was great for a low budget sci-fi thriller, and yes, if you've never read Starship Troopers, do so, it's a great read (as is most stuff from RH).

Except I read the book after seeing the movie .. and had I not been reading at the time I'd probably have been crying. Denise Richards was the movie's only saving grace .. and you don't even see her nude in this one.

Pure coincidence. However, it is true I do have a thing for Barney, and that thing is a chainsaw.

I liked it. Then again, I'm more of a Predator fan than an Alien fan. And they pretty much got things right with them.

I enjoyed the first movie too, and I welcome the sequel. Trouble is in our day and age EVERYBODY is an armchair critic, well screw that. When you go to see a film and Alien beasts that pull each other to bits, you surely don't expect some sort of drama or a story really?

Well, true enough, but there are still some rules that it's not a bad idea to follow when making a movie, and the AVP movie seemed to eschew those rules. For example; the Scottish guy was set up to be the 'comic relief' character in the movie preamble, and generally speaking, the comic relief guy is supposed to make it to the end of the movie, so although shocking to see him go, it cut off one of the film's dramatic avenues. Similarly, CB Weyland's character was kind of thrown away early too, they could have done a lot more with him, and Lance Henriksen is a fan of the series, so was up for it. Of course they can make him a robot if they like in future movies, but it did seem a waste to kill him off early in the proceedings. But the killer for me was the attempt to up the pacing by changing the Alien gestation period to oooh, about 2 minutes? something like that. The movie should at least live within its own reality and limitations, I don't think it's too much to expect at least that.

Well um true enough. But I just read it as the Predators simply found a way to accelerate the gestation period. That seemed to be the suggestions hinted in the comic adaptations. Not only that they are advanced enough to build spaceships and stuff so to make something be born a bit quicker wouldn't be beyond their capabilities.
PErsonally speaking I liked the first AVP I thought it was a good effort at combining the series, and given that it was based off a computer game it was not a bad film at all. There were numerous holes in places, but to be honest if you see AVP for what it is, that being an action based scifi-horror its very enjoyable.
If in terms of just over all top notch quality, of the whole series the best film IMO is Predator with Arnie in it. Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 were all good, Aliens being the best, and the less said about Alien Resurrection the better.
I think AVP:R will be decent if its took for what it is. And I won't let the ramblings of people on some movie message board turn me off to that.
PS. Poor Alien doesn't have a chance against Barney!:rotfl:

Could'nt agree more. This movie will be crap, you can see that in the trailers allready out that for some reason the Predators kill humand indiscriminantly, something that goes against their code which makes the upcomginh suckfest even worse.

No, as I understand it, the Predator ship crashes in Colorado, and the predator(s) are sent to clean up the situation, i.e exterminating aliens and witnesses. If someone was allowed to escape or capture Predator technology, humans could study it and it'd make future hunts more difficult.
The Yautja will generally ignore unarmed Oomans (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Highrise/7256/human.html), especially women. If a person is skilled enough to be dangerous without weapons, the Yautja will be more than happy to fight.

Much as I am loathed to use it, but, in Predator 2, he tore through a train on a killing spree. But you later find out, he only killed the passengers who had weapons, yet there were several witnesses to that event who were not killed.

Also, from the trailer, its not clear whether or not the humans had been facehugged.
