U-Boat contact & sinking report of U-136, July '42

Note record of U-Boat movement on 4th attack... very slowly "indeed". then on 5th "?".
Also, notice use of Mark VII depth charges, then switched to T.N.T. d.c.'s
I find this official sort of record very interesting to imagine similar situations as a subsimmer, yet from below.

Those poor bastards....

What is that at number 16. something about a lifebelt and a piece of wood... is that what came to the surface after a DC attack?

Very interesting find there. Just shows what goes into a depth charge attack.

Makes you think about how brave you needed to be to get your arse into a sardine can and sail submerged doing just a couple of knots with a friggin DD above you... god... I think about how my heart accelerates when I see their bottoms through the observation periscope... and how you hold your breathe when you hear the sonar guy calling "Depth charges in the water", or how awful it is to hear that damn ping increase in rate... and god! When you realize it's all into a PC simulator... wow... where did they take the courage from?

BTW: Hi to everyone, I'm new at Subsim.com

Poor sods...looks like the DD caught them in good seas from the reports. Must have been a good crew to sink her on only their second pass! Kind of brings the history to life when you see stuff like that. May their souls RIP.

Btw welcome to SubSim TomcatMVD , enjoy your stay. :arrgh!:

I do keep looking back at this report & I seem to find more things. Notice near the final d.c. drops that they ganged up in the 3-ship fashion to keep a grip on their pinging, (by the 3rd to final runs it notes the Spey was joined with Pelican & Leopard), and runs.

I have a question on the details to wonder, and I would like to figure out the real terms that may had been used by the Royal Navy is about the notes of D.C. depth settings noted by "traps" & "throwers"? I am just taking a guess that determines that the d.c.'s were launched of stern racks (traps), and side rail (throwers). (?) :hmm:
