In career mode you have to start from a main base.

Be prepared for a long trip, because in the alternative history of SH4 the Panama Canal hasn't been built yet :)
OMG that would be awesome! To be able to take a sub from sea trails, to commissioning, to shake down cruise, to transit cruise, then off to Pearl and points beyond. You probably be reassigned before reaching the end of the war, but would be interesting . . . even dodging friendly fire in the gulf . . . damn those hot shot airmen, thinking they are the ****.
To the OP's point.... I think.... I'm using TM (1.7.2 now) and while I've heard folks talking about New London and the ability to start a new construction career from there, I've never seen it. I've tried clicking on the New Construction entries in the career start drop down, but every one seems to lead to Mare Island, CA.
If anyone knows where to to find the New London option, I'd appreciate a hint or two.

You can go to sub school in Groton, CT. It's a mod available at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=121100

Nothing wrong with good old Mare Island, many a boat and ship was constructed there . . . to sad the USN went with the Megaport idea . . . not that I mind being in San Diego, and all. However, you can also blame the liberalization of the SF Bay Area since the late 60's for this one. Once home to a good percentage of the Pacific Fleet . . . now a military desert . . . even the NG & Reserve units there I here are under siege.
Ah... cool. I didn't realize it was a separate mod. I assume it's 1.4 and latest TM compatible?
Thanks

Yup. San Francisco officials in their moonbat wisdom even rejected the veteran WW2 battleship USS Iowa from becoming an exhibit in the Bay Area.

Smug idiots. I'm surprised they haven't kicked out the USS Pampanito. After all a war machine is a war machine.

If the panamal canal existed, id have put some in new london too. But since the panamal canal doesnt exist, mare island was the only logical choice.
Thanks for all the replies and I guess Mare Island it is.

I have seen that the SH3 folks have added the Kiel Canal. I wonder how difficult it would be to mod. I also remember reading about some of the S class boats patrolling out of Panama. Just a thought, though. I would volunteer to do it but I have no idea how it would be done.

CDR ResserI've been watching for the Terrain Editor for SH4 for just this reason... well, and Truk Lagoon too. ;-) The Manitowoc boats came down the Mississippi river in floating drydocks to Louisiana then like the East Coast boats through the Panama canal...... hopefully someday.
Happy Hunting!

I never did look into the terrain editing done in SH3, subsquently i don't have any clue about it. I am sure it was fairly complex.
I do know this, associated file is , as i recall, around 200 MB's, give or take 50 MB's. This one file alone would double the d/l size of Tmaru. From a cost/bennfit standpoint, im not sure i would include the file in Tmaru it if it existed.

Nancy Pelosi, genius that she is, is allied with the anti-military establishment of San Francisco. When the Navy had a shindig of some kind going there, she found that the evil nuclear weapons were on board Naval ships in her peaceful city. She raised a stink, causing the nukes to be offloaded into the city. Then grandstanding in Washington DC, trying to embarass the Navy, she effectively made it impossible to get the nukes out of San Fran! So there they sat! There is justice in the world when tree hugging hippie peacenik stupidity results in your peace loving city becoming the largest repository for nukes in the country. This is from "Gallant Lady: Biography of the USS Archerfish" and I found it quite by mistake. So hail San Francisco, city of nukes! A little nukie never hurt anybody. Well, not too many people, anyway.:sunny:

I know i am not the only Californian who would loving nothing more then to saw Frisco off the state, and shove it off into the ocean so it can be its own island. 90% of all shennigans, start there. We'd be much better off if it was an island unto itself.

Leave it attached! It doesn't reflect on the rest of California (too alien) and it's very entertaining! The commies have to have somewhere to demonstrate their stupidity or we'll start to get all misty-eyed and nostalgic about them. They need to continue to discredit themselves on a daily basis or our short memories will expire and we'll be attracted to that nonsense again. In fact, give them a reality TV show! Use 'em for halftime at the Super Bowl. Let 'em guest host Saturday Night Live.
How do you defeat stupid people? Let 'em talk! Hand 'em a microphone and point a camera their way. They can't resist making fools of themselves. If you repress them you do them a favor. As a matter of fact, during harmless times it helps to put one in charge for awhile just to reveal their vaccuous nature.
Well said RR. Was it Ben Franklin who said keep you mouth shut and let everyone believe you're stupid rather than open it and prove them all right.

I like to just fly over Mare Island during flight lessons and just imagine it in its hay-day(sp?). Port Chicago too...the ammo bunkers and rasil-lines to the docks asre still there
I love the south park about everyone getting a hybrid cars and becomming all smug like San Franciscans.
I just don't like hippy liberal morons. They have good intentions but that's about it.
