View Full Version : Fatal Error(s) !
hi hunter's
once more...
i have removed evrything i could think of regarding sh3 - gone everywhere to look for bits i could think of too - maybe i've missed something because, i get this now:
after trying to uninstall
Error 1316. a network error occured while attempting to read from file C:\ windows\installer\silenthunteriii.msi
and then after clicking ok, there is a pause then,
Error:1606 fatal error during installation. consult windows...
so, i am assuming there is still something left inside the system. it's not completely removing everything...
do any of you out there have a clue what this means ?
cos i've gone from a set up that works to one that is ******

Google is your friend! - HERE (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=nCm&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Error+1316.+a+network+error+occurred+while+attem pting&spell=1)
This is not a SH3 problem but a windows installer issue.
thanks Danlisa
have tried this.
i have adobe on my system but not those applications, so.... i just removed ALL adobe stuff, manualy too.
so i come back to install and it asks me with the pop-up box do i want to modify repair or...whatever, to previous installation, its got those 3 options you can click with Remove being the last one.
dont remember this on clean sh3 install, somehow doesnt seem right ?

It's giving you those options because the install was interrupted last time. Part of the program installed before it crashed, usually the registry entries.
Proceed as directed.
BTW, it's not necessarily related to Adobe but more then likely a windows installer shell issue. If you look at all the links on google, you will see that it can happen to other programs too.;)
ok, i'm just gonna check this out...
1. i know have sh3 patched to 1.4 on my system. i know its 1.4 coz it says bottom right corner once fired up.
2. i do not have sh3 commander or mod enabler installed. i will need sh3 commander to play sh3-GWX2 ?
3. i have the new GWX files in ONE folder with paw print.
4. i have a sickly feeling it will bump again...something dont feel right...?
cheers

Ive come across this prob before in other games Danlisa is absolutly right but sometimes when those shell.install probs begin to happen it can mean your OS is getting unstable and time for a HD format and re-image if the problem persists.
Sometimes ya get lucky and sometimes ya dont with those type glitches
From what Ive read ya dont have to have SH Commander. GWX is a stand alone deal mate afaik.

The Windows Install Cleanup Utility should be of use here. If SH3 hasn't uninstall properly, it will appear in the list, you highlight it then click on 'Remove' and the Cleanup tool ensures all files and references to that application are deleted. After that is run you should be able to reinstall SH3 without further problems, and then the patch.
Flag4, I have experienced similar problems as you ( all is fine now, so be encouraged), and I think my problem was to do with possible file corruption.
I downloaded the GWX 2.0 files again, and checksummed each one, singly, to make sure the numbers matched. You need a little tool to do that which can be downloaded from.
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/ (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/GWX/)
or just Google for an md5 utility.
The Windows Install Cleanup Tool you can get from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.
The md5 strings that need to match with the GWX files are
D1FF0D6BFD651E869E323D393B1D5B1E *GWX2.EXE
7B14767E3FD8DD9866D902D6CB4B69FE *GWX2-1.BIN

the md5 numbers above need to be copied to notepad and then the notepad file saved in the same folder as the downloaded GWX 2.0 files, and when you open the tool up you browse to each file and click on it, and then paste the relevant hash into the second box and click on Compare. It shortly comes back with a verdict.
If you know all this already, or have already been through these procedures, my apologies :)
thanks for you're help She-Wolf

Yeah, but your ERROR CODE in your first post is a WINDOWS issue, it has nothing to do with GWX.
Check the GWX parts with the MD5 Mate first, it's a good start and should be mandatory.
i'm doing this Danlisa but my heads in a spin - i'm not a computer tech.
the windows issue is complecated for me to understand - i'm no wizz at this,
and I must not forget i want to play SH3-GWX2 not look for needles in haystacks - if you dont understand something, and there is no one on hand to show you - physically stand next to you and do it as explaining it - its a black hole.
i accept, that in my haste to get going with it i probably cocked up here and there, but this is a nightmare for me - and worst of all, this is the only game i love playing, not just the game but the history too.
so if it is something microsoft and not sh3gwx2, then it's probably closing time at the night club, Herr Kaleun, for me.
and then some talk of formating my hard drive - no!
this is a game, can not be a nightmare. i would rather try and move on to sh4, maybe some luck there, if not.... ADIEU !!

flag4, the 1316 network error message should be fixed if you run the Windows installer cleanup utility.Possibly the other one as well - try it.
Once you have a clean install of SH3, you can patch it, and then leave the game on one side while you use md5mate.
When you put the number in, do not include the file name ( like GWX2.exe), just the number. When you know each file matches, then you can click on GWX.exe.
It will come ok, don't give up or get rattled.
as miserable as it is sometimes....F-Disk:nope: can be your friend.....when windows corrupts its really hard to fix...:damn: I feel for you man....very frustrating.

Copy 'silenthunteriii.msi' , 'data1.cab' and 'data11.cab' from your SH3-cd to C:\ windows\installer\
Than try it again.
You may have to reinstall the game first before you can uninstall it.
That's all.
