In GWX there is a variable percentagechance that you will receive Luftwaffe help, dependant on your location and the distance to your nearest driendly airbase.

Never tested it re ships\subs

Some ppl have reported subs arriving after sending out reports

All depends on locale
If no friendly units anywhere near then no help

Even if AI subs did have the capability to respond, at the speed they travel it would mean they'd have to be very very close :arrgh!:

I have recieved Air support on many occasions as consequence
bear in mind you have to be within reach of freindly forces.

The only support I have received so far has been from the air.

But from that point of view, you can count on consistent air support showing up:
around the British Isles in the 1940.
in the Med, where you can get support from both Luftwaffe and Italian Air Force, especially around Malta until late 1942.
around the coast of Norway where air support is available throughout the war.The damn flyboys just blasted an american Balao class sub in my last patrol (Sept. 1943) somewhere in the north sea off Bergen. I really don't know what it was doing there, but it sure lined up nicely in the scope just before the Stukas took away my renown:damn:

What Mush says, this also goes for friendly ships but they'd have to be close by, this only regularly happens in the Med I've seen Italian Soldati DDs respond to my Contact reports

Theoretically you could be way up north stalking a Murmansk Convoy at a time when Tirpitz or one of the other big ones is also at sea, also theoretically you could home them in on the convoy by sending regular reports and then watch the show, this is however a very hypothetical situation in the campaign, if anyone has actually done this we'd love screenies

Funny thing is it only took the rumour of the Tirpitz at sea to scatter a lightly escorted convoy. Sadly she rarely ventured from her fjord.

In stock, I have never recieved help...but most of the time, I am too close to Britain.

I once patrolled near the Eastern coast of Britain, I was bored and saw a fishing boat.

I just wanted to test if the lazy luftwaffe boys would finally rise their butts and actually do something, sadly. They did.

Over 30 Stuka and Ju-88 bombers attacked the poor bastard.
All at once, I'm sure those poor bastards in the boat got very sick from all the flying. Womiting everything they had on their stomach.

This, of course. Was around 1940-41

Quite, :D

Best sort fo Luftwaffe blooper I've seen was while I was submerged right smack in the middle of Bristol Harbor.

Luftwaffe comes along with a bunch of Heinkels to do an air raid and manages to nearly kill me, with 5 or six very close bomb hits, steal my credit for an Auxiliary Cruiser and a Large Merchant that I had already torpedo'd but hadn't sunk yet :stare:

:damn:

Now, in mitigation I shouldn't have been there, that's not what IXb u-boats are for but they could have tried to avoid my periscope, they managed not to hit any of the docked neutrals after all....

Never, not once. I always send contact reports back to BDu, and they never send me any sort of back-up.
I think its a conspiracy to give all availabe supprt to keep Balz alive, as he's sunk so much shipping, the RN have a policy to sink Balz at all costs.

I never knew you could get any type of help!!

It would be nice to "hope" that you might get some sort of backup if you were in a mess!!:gulp:

Sure you can get help but you have to be
operating in an area covered by an axis
base of some type

(with the exception of if your playing as an
allied unit then the inverse is true)

in order to see the coverage
open the mission or campaign folder
under Lnd mis and look at the
bases each naval and air base
have an area of coverage highlighted
by a circle that you can vary the
size of in properties.

I'm sorry, but I am having trouble understanding you instructions on how to find out about the air coverage.

I did some missions north of Norway, resupplying in Bergen. Somewhere I had seen a radius for air support, I cannot remember now how much. With this radius I drew a circle around Narvik, and then I did patrol in this area. When meeting a convoy, I did report it, and often the Luftwaffe did appear and attack the convoys.

If it was while running basic SHIII 1.4b, or some of the early GW versions I cannot say.

I haven't ever gotten air support. I'll keep sending reports and hope I can get Herr Goring on a good day! I'd like to see it at least once.

The Black Sea is also a good place to see friendly planes doing their thing, seen Romanian bombers attacking russian convoys repeatedly

If you are lucky enough to get air support:

Do you have to worry about your gunners shooting at friendly planes?

Since you now have friendly planes attacking the enemy, can enemy planes show up to help defend their ships by attacking the axis planes and you if you are on the surface?

I once attacked unintendetly (spelling?) a pair of stukas near norway but i undestood my mistake early enough.
About the second,no idea.

KeptinCranky

They definitely attack you!

This was back in stock, but i was engaging a C3 with my deckgun off Hartlepool and 2 hurricanes showed, so I took those out too.

In GWX, if a convoy gets attacked, by you, and I'd imagine by axis planes too (I can't personally confirm this), if a plane is in the area it will come to assist the escorts and drop bombs, strafe and generally make a right nuisance of itself :stare:

Ok

its open the mission editor
then go to open
file

go to C/Program/Files/Ubisoft/shIII/Data/Campaign (or mission)
then in campaign open the lnd file

or in missions
just open the appropriate mission
folder

just click on the base and its got a
glowing circle about as described
before this circle represents the
perimiter of the bases detection
and patrol limits.

I always report contacts between 39-41, and have never seen a single Axis plane. I normally patrol just under the coast of Ireland.

I'm not finding any Ind files under the above path. Are you talking about 'Campaign_LND.mis'?

Following contact reports in the past, I've noticed that other German subs are spawned to join the pursuit. However, the move so slowly an on the surface that unless the convoy's moving at less than 4kts, they'll never catch up.

And then, if they do, assuming that AI subs won't submerge or fire torpedos, they'll get cut to pieces by the escorts...

Planes; I've seen nothing of the Luftwaffe in an offensive role. Ever.

That is not always the case...I have come across convoys on many occasions where the escorts are down to only 2 or 3 vessels because of an earlier altication with AI subs. :arrgh!:
