A 'War is Hell' moment

Had one of those little 'ugh' moments when playing this game...which is, really, a testament to the game...but still...

...sank a tanker in heavy seas...crew took to the lifeboats. I'd been close when the torpedoes fired, so I got a good look as one of the boats was overturned and swamped by heavy waves. She bobbed back up a second later with no survivors present.

I remember playing WarBirds one night. A group of us took B-17s to go on a bombing mission. There were only about 6 of us. Someone spotted a dot high 12, and I jumped to the top turret to shoot at him if he was a bad guy. Sure enough, it's an FW190 diving for a head on pass through our decently tight formation. The B-17 on me left wing was pretty close, and actually slightly below me—just enough that I couldn't see him from the top turret because of my left wing. The 190 goes to makes his blazing fast pass, luckily for me on the guy to my left. I ineffectively sprayed .50 cal at him as he was in bound.

He disappears out of my field of view in a flash as I rotate the turret left looking over my wing...

That's when I see it, it's like slow motion, one wing starts popping up into view over mine, then I see the underside. The B-17 to my left is rolling over, smoke and flames pouring out, one wing gone (I switched views to a different gun at that point). My hair stood on end.

I've played IL-2 a bit... felt the frustration and helplessness as a wing's torn off, the roll starts, and I get to watch the ground come up. Too low to bail, too high to expect to survive.

Then to watch the end of United 93 movie, and see the same thing... knowing those folks didn't get to simply hit "ESC" and "Restart".

And the wife wants to know why I'm bawling in the theater :nope:

this always happens to me
i always felt guilty for those poor citizens when i missed a target in mscfs
i think this kind fellings that sometimes games awaken , is what separates , a good simulation like il 2
from games like BF2

games where surviving turns more important for us because of personal (and virtual ) reasons, than acomplishing a mission i always believed that this was the appeal of simulations,
this is specially strong when playing online , with friends
at least to me
it fells bad to see a friend die
even though i know its just virtual, but seeing a partner plummeting to the ground
or slowly sinking to his death
to me his shouts of F___k over the microphone sound like helpless calls for help. ofcourse we can only enjoy this knowing that its virtual
im not saying that seeing your friends die in real life canot bring you much enjoyment

ohh yes, sorry english is not my first language, but i DO see the mistake
it was probably when i was changing some part of the sentence and i forgot to change the other.

i tried to say that, im sure that this "EMOTION" i was taking about isnt pleaseant in real life,
only in a simulated world can it bring some enjoyment.
and even here im not able to express what i mean 100 percent correctly, but YOU CAN BE SURE that i didnt meant what you think i meant.

No problem at all. Your English is excellent, and I can see where you made a slight error in the negative's which changed your intended meaning. I speak, or have spoken in the past, a fair amount of Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish....and some conversational Italian and Thai. I made/make mistakes all the time, big mistakes! :oops:

I just wanted to be sure what you were saying in this case.
