So I'll be honest, i've had SH4 since after a few weeks of its release but never gave it much time.
I finally sat down yesterday and have been immensely addicted since.
I've seen some screens and videos here of those using ROW addons and others that get really nice waves and Rain effects.
Where do the rain effects come from? A mod I presume?
Another thing, torpedo tracking.
I cant hit anything unless its 60 feet in front of me, is there a guide on how to properly set torpedos to track target distance and actually impact.. i've seen them what appears go right under a ship which is kinda annoying.
Otherwise i'm loving this but would like the most graphically stunning punch I could get from the game and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE Mods:
Mods are in a state of flux right now since we had a patch. Check the stickies in the mod forum for the 1.4 compatible list. If you happen to eyeball TM, don't d/l it yet. I *hope* to post another revision of TM tonight, so the current one will be outdated soon.
RE torpedo tracking.
If your new to submarine simulations, id recommend going with autoTDC - for now. You'll have alot to aquaint yourself with, and the manual TDC might be a case of information overload. That said, this is one the best tutorials for manual targeting:

Thanks for the welcome and the bit of info.
I've been a simmer for years, My first game was F 117 or something like that which came on 5 3/4 disc.
From then on I went to dabble in flight sims up til present. Alogn with the Flashpoint series, Armed assault and various games played online in Harcore/Real servers using tactical assignments.
However, I always wanted to apply this under water. My first attempt was with Silent Hunter II which was so buggy on my old system at the time i never got into it. SH3 I have, but only installed once, once again i was on a older system and it never ran well.
Now I have a great system and have enjoyed FX and others in all their glory.
This brings me to SH4 I am happy to be running deep, going to 20, raising the attack targeting an enemy ship and bam, only to dive and slip off into the night. Its fantastic.
Does anybody know if there in the past for any Sub Sims has been a modern submarine warfare mod? Or simulation?
I have waited for years to get my hands on a mock up of a Dallas Class sub and go hunting russian oscars and others. However, i figure this will come with time.
I will say this bloody sim is fantastic though. Sub warfare is now a new personal favorite simulation hobby.

I'm not sure I understood the video, I take it that what I want is also wanted by many others and we have been short shafted and will most likely not get a title that simulates modern sub based warfare? Although I can understand as no 100% simulation could be made due to classified information but estimates could always be made.
Oh well, SHIV is great anyways.

Life I suppose, Horses take a lot of time. But I'm no longer in the horse business and have some time. Also, I've been immensely addicted to Armed Assault and Simulation Racing I did fire up SH4 once when i first got it, but it was so darned buggy that I shelved it. But now, I have time and figured maybe it was patched and its not so buggy, plus my system tolerates is nicely now. So a few reasons really :)
