That website is a great place to burn a couple of hours. In an American-centric world over here in Florida it is easy to forget that other countries' submarines contributed important items to our war effort, and sometimes very different things than American subs did.
The British X-Craft were unique in being perhaps the only successful mini-subs on both sides in the war. They did some effective work that made a difference in some battles, including D-Day. I loved the code-name for their mission, Operation Gambit, with the accompanying explanation that a gambit is the pawn sacrificed to position the opposing player for a crushing blow in chess. Must have been highly motivating for the subs' crews... "Go little pawns!"
